Ever since i got mine the wife has been begging me for one. So I searched and searched and searched. About two weeks it took but i found another 87 waggie with the 242 transfer and the dana 30/44 combo. I went to cinci to check it out and it had some engine problem the kid told me he has never changed the oil in it since he had it That knocked the price down right there. And the power steering pulley is warped. He wanted a thousand initially but i got him down to 700 after looking at it and telling him what was wrong and what it would take to fix it. It was a 150 mile drive home which i took slow and stopped every 50 miles to check the fluids. Got home and started ripping in to it. My wife started cleaning up the upholstery. These are the pics









I put half a can of Seafoam in the valve cover and ran her for about 15 minutes. I then drained the oil. It was like water coming out. I am sure the seafoam thinned it a lil but this was water basically. The filter had been on so long i had to drive a flat tip through it to get it out. Popped the valve cover off, and removed the airbox and power steering pump.





Taking the valve cover to work today to use the solvent take. Gonna bring about a liter home with me so i can flush it through the engine also and get some more of the gunk out of it.

Any Ideas for what to do with this project or welcome

First I would NOT put any solvent in the oil. I would mix half diesel fuel and half oil. Put that in and let it circulate about 5 minutes. Then drain it again. Change and put straight 30 or 40 wt in and run it up to operating temp. Drain a second time then put in whichever oil you plan to run. BTW change the filter at every drain cycle. The oil you choose should have zinc and phosphorus in it for our old Renix engines to survive. I bought extra bottles of the stuff and use it at every oil change to be assured that there is a sufficent quantity of those two chemicals in the oil. Most of the diesel oils are the only ones still putting those two chemicals in their oils. The newer off the shelf oils are deplete in those essential ingredients to satisfy the requirements of the older Renix Jeeps.

I know just when i get my other waggie running good. I am gonna keep them both modest at 3-3.5 lift and 31's. I say that now. No 97 front end conversion. The waggie is the vehicle with the "goofy" front end gotta keep it that way lol.

My wife has been working on the head liner since it was sagging. She fiberglassed the underside to help strengthen it. And has glued some nice camo to the other side. Looks good.

This has been my project as of lately

Oil Pan and Rear main PIA





Been fighting the concrete seal on the block side of the engine for awhile now. Putty knife and drill with wire brush just isnt getting it. Piced up some rasor blades today. Oh yeah Dremel was just an anoyance to it. burnt the bits up faster than it did anything.

Installing lift this weekend on both jeeps if anyone lives close the Radcliff, Ky area and wants to help out.

I'm just waiting for the day when my DD Jeep reaches "beater" status so I can buy a new DD and mod the crap out of the beater.
