Id go with RE. i have two buddies that run the RE and the other runs IRO and the RE was an easier install, and more beefy IMO. 35s would require some more trimming, and another inch or two. looks like you have a d35 correct? swap that out and run 4.56s. nice build btw.

You could fit 35s with a good bit of trimming without the spacer's. I wish I would have gone with 35s now lol. With 35s you'll want 4.88s if you have an auto and 4.56s if you have a manual.

x2 on getting rid of the d35 as soon as possible.

well I kinda want to go just a little bit higher and when I can afford it i will take out the spacer and put a taller spring in its place. yeah I have the D35 and swapping in a D44 or a 8.25 is my first goal this summer, right now I know of a couple junk yards in my area with 87 xjs, i just have to go and see if they have D44's and now that school is over I can get started . I have the manual so 4.56's are what I am going with. thank you guys very much for the all the input, ideas and support on my build!!

thanks bro! yeah I am not totally finished with it yet, its functional but not quite where I'd like it to be. basically what I have done is swap in a radiator with a fill spout and bypassed the reservoir bottle thats on the fire wall. yeah I'll post pics for ya as soon as I can.

well I just connected the incoming and out going lines that go to the bottle, effectively bypassing the bottle and then I installed the radiator with the fill spout. basically my reservoir bottle broke and I had to rig it to hold water to get it home, and it worked so I just left it as is lol

Default Aaaannnnnnnddddd I’m back!

It’s been quite a while since I’ve posted here. Had neglected the Jeep for a while as I was in graduate school and had a 95 M edition Miata that was my DD until I lost it and my home from the Camp Fire in Paradise CA. Now the Jeep is my DD again so I’m trying to spiff it up a bit. I have done a few things over the last 5-6 years like a ‘94 HP dana 30 swap, bed lined the inside, SYE and ZJ front drive shaft. Also added 33’s and a OEM rear tire carrier. I recently found a unicorn (XJ Dana 44 with LSD) at the local pick and pull and did a ZJ disc brake swap. I pulled the dana 35 and decided it was a good time to do a WJ brake booster and MC swap. So the Jeep is up on blocks while I wait for new u bolts and RE monotube shocks. I’m not sure if anyone is still following but I’m still building haha!

After 33’s, rear tire carrier and SYE with ZJ double cardan drive shaft.

In the middle of rear axle swap and WJ brake booster and MC swap.

XJ Dana 44 with ZJ disc brake swap on top. Old Dana 35 below.

Went to my parents house today to get some work done on the Jeep. Managed to get the Dana 44 under the Jeep and get it off the jacks. Still have to install the WJ brake booster, ZJ proportioning valve and rear brake lines. Hopefully I’ll get it done tomorrow and Sunday before I start work on Monday. Here are a few pics of how things are going so far.

WJ master cylinder and brake booster that will be installed soon. Had to ghetto fab a spacer to get the same length as the OE. The end is welded as my dad got a little too carried away when grinding it flat to interface with the brake light switch.

New rear brake line as the old one is 9+ years old and I dropped the axle before disconnecting it and stretched it out a bit 😬😬😬

New RE/Bilstein Monotube shocks. Pretty stoked for these as I found one of my rear shocks was shot.

Axle in with u bolts only. Still have to figure out brake lines and put the bar pins in the shocks. Got too dark to do it tonight.

View from the back of the Dana 44 🤩🤩🤩

Changed the proportioning valve, installed rear brake line, tightened rear u bolts. Also found that the u joints in my front drive shaft were shot. Luckily I had a spare and swapped it in. Placed the WJ MC and BB in the Jeep but I’m having trouble getting the lines to fit. Hopefully I’ll get the rear brake lines and MC lines in on Sunday. 🤞🏻

WJ MC and BB ghetto fab spacer and ground to fit brake light switch.

Before

After - still need to make lines fit into proportioning valve

Old and new rear brake lines. Such a big difference!!

Old proportioning left vs. ZJ proportioning valve Right.
