I am thinking about doing a rear aussie locker, or a ford trac loc limited slip. My friend has the trac loc LSD in his mustang and when you punch it around a corner, it throws it sideways, without chirping on the corners. What do you guys think?
LSD is weak and uses Clutches I believe that wear out. Go for the Aussie, that's what I am putting in my Ford 8.8.
But I had to be sure to get the ford 8.8 with out the LSD because it uses a different carrier and I would not have been able to just put a Aussie in its place without replacing the whole carrier which entailes messing with and adjusting the gears.
So I made sure to buy the 8.8 with the open diff that way I could just slap an aussie in there.
No clutches to wear out and true locked!
I read with LSD and off road the first obstical you try to go over will burn up the LSD and turn it useless.
Hope that helps.

Cool.. thanks for the tip. I guess Ill just have to run an aussie in the rear then..
Ill have pics of the d30 with the truss and stuff in a week or so. Just ordered some aftermarket greasable axle seals, hopefully they can keep the water out!

So a little update...
Ive kept it at 4.5" until the holidays pass. Until then I have been trying to gather parts like Hack N' Tap, front driveshaft, Rubicon Express shocks.
The Rough Country shocks were junk and almost all of them are blown. Yeah they will send me new ones. Yeah, they will do the same thing..
I picked up the ford trac lock for free so thats what im going to run in the rear. Ordered a Timken bearing kit as well, and im going to add clutches to it. I think it will be plenty strong enough, but if it breaks I can always go back to the open carrier with an aussie.
Looking at getting a tuner/chip for it. I would like something that meters / moniters A/F ratios in the cab also, as well as a more accurate engine temp. reading.
Heres a few updated pics..

Had to Rebuild my Johnny Joints from RC. Again.

Had to weld on a "bung" for my downstream O2 sensor. Turns out, I never had one
I had to drill a hole, then went to napa and they actually sold the bung nut to weld on to the pipe.

Replaced the upstream O2 also.. looked like this

Picked up new pads, rotors, and calipers for the 8.8 for 50 bucks, and got a free 8.8 axle with it
now I have a spare!
I need to rebuild the double cardian in my front shaft.. its squeeling and kind of vibrating and I can feel it under my foot while I drive.

Yes, thats what you would want to ask for at NAPA. They are the only ones who have it, cheap places like advanced and auto world or whatever wont. Ask for an 02 Sensor Exhaust Bung Nut. You could make it even more awkward and ask for the bunghole nut, depends on the sense or humor and whos working I guess

Picked up some new 31x10.5 sumitomo All terrain HTR's for 30 bucks, went to my buddys shop and dismounted the 32's and mounted the 31's via lighter and starting fluid. Running these through the winter should give me time to buy a 5th 34x9.5 TSL.. I bought 4 for 150 but one has a broken belt (so I will keep for a spare, they are all new).
About to take the 32's off..

So I had to rebuild my front end last night. When I put in the disco dana 30, turns out there is no inner seal, just an outer seal that goes on the outer shaft. Well I swapped in the 1 peice shaft, but never put a seal in. This in turn let water come in to the axle housing and make a milk shake out of the gear oil. Luckily I cought it fairly early. Heres a few pics of the cleaning. I didnt get any of the seal getting installed but it was pretty straight forward.
Well, thats not good...

What? Your not supposed to run a wendys milkshake for gear oil?

3 cans of brake cleaner later....

I opted to take the locker apart and clean it. Again, another 2 cans of brake cleaner later..

Bolted it all back in, 45 ft/lbs to all 4 bolts. I had already had this carrier out so everything was center punched 1-4. Also used a "rolac" pad with an air wheel to clean up the gasket mating surface. they worked really well.

Anndd done
I got a little messy with the RTV, but whatever. I dont really care if I have a few blue spots down there

It was custom built. I love it. Its very simple and I love the way it looks more than any manufactured bumper out there. When I cut and folt the rear 1/4, the wrap around tubing im going to extend to go under the fender for more protection, almost as a slider. It looks like someone knew how to use a tubing bender and bent it up, and welded it on to some simple yet strong brackets, and then the diamond plate actually bolts on. Its aluminum, so they drilled holes in it and bolted it to the steel. Ive yarded people oue with it and been pulled out from it, high lifted off it, and towed with it. Best 50 bucks ever spent!
Haha pic of the year! It was really bad. It took us all day to get the axle how I wanted it (Not a DROP of milk in it, I wanted it 100% clean, and it was when we finished. I would say we spent about 4 hours just cleaning the housing. I replaced both seals (drivers side and pass. side)..but no pics of that. I am not taking it through any water until I get some of the aftermarket outer (greasable ) seals. While im in there im going to replace the u-joints too. I should have done it when I did the seal but the day was getting long and cold (up in maine, no heat in the shop). Also going to rebuild the front shaft with new u-joints / double cardian.
*I am in need of a tranny flush. I am not power flushing it with a machine (which is what will ruin the seals, and cause more problems. I was told to warm it up for 15-20 minutes, then drain it and run about a case of tranny fluid through it just by gravity, then when its all clean and clear, replace the filter also, and then fill it with fluid.) I am more or less doing this as preventitive maintainence. It acts up a little bit whens she is cold also, but nothing major..
*Hopefully after the tranny flush I am going to re-do the steering with new bushings / TRE's. I have some slop because of them and I would like it as tight as possible, especially with the durango box / new drop pitman arm.
That should leave me ready to pound on her all winter.. pulling priuses out of ditches and what have you..

Thanks for the reply on that bumper, And Wow they did an awsome job for making it all home made. Id buy one if you made it haha and that'll look good when you extend it under the fender after you trim them up. Be sure to post some pictures when you do

For sure, I deff. will post up pics!
I have thought about re-making the bumper. For me to sell one to you, I would need to buy a 100 dollar tubing bender, which I may be doing to finish a roll cage im building. Then I would need to buy all the steel, weld it together, and then have to ship it to you.. kinda a pain and would be expensive.. but If anyone local to me was interested, I would for sure build one up.
