My buddy mike and I each have southern 98 cherokees. We rolled up our sleaves yesterday and put a 3 inch lift in his. All in all it went well except for the upper rear shock mounting bolts....I assume they are studs originally. He has bolts dropped in from the top in stead of the studs and they spin when you try to remove them. Should we burn the bolts off and use self tapping hardware to mount the new shocks? I'm not sure if the self tappers will stay put. Any suggestions?

Welcome to CF!

The original shock mounts were capture nuts and it's not uncommon for the hardware to snap off when trying to remove. A previous owner already found that out apparently.

Most folks will cut a hole from inside the XJ and then add nuts and bolts.
