Default Just doing some research into crazy ideas

With gas prices going up I’ve been looking into alternatives and it turns out, even though it would be quite a bit of work, I could legally make fuel quality moonshine for about a buck a gallon. Which begs the question, how much would go into doing a conversion to a 99-01 xj to be able to run off both gasoline and whiskey? I know, fuel line seals, fuel pump obviously but would the head be able to take it, etc.? Haven’t seen much for similar builds besides propane, considering that too.

Something you will have to account for is that moonshine is 100 proof, being only 50% alcohol. The water will subtract most of the BTUs out of the gas. I think you will have to use pure alcohol and hope the ECM in the Jeep can compensate. They are kind of dumb as ECMs go

If you can distill your fuel further to a more pure product then you will need a standalone ecu with a delphi ethanol content sensor ( flex fuel). Don't forget larger injectors as the stock will be maxed at higher load levels. Now that you are pumping in that very stable fuel you might as well take advantage of the standalone, injectors, ethanol safe fuel system and add forced induction.

What would be the heat capacity of the fuel you'd be producing? Wouldn't really make sense to produce a fuel at 1/3 the cost if it also had 1/3 of the efficiency.

edit: also this topic would be more appropriate in chat.

I think a diesel swap would provide alot more bang for the buck.
