I have a 99 Cherokee XJ. Typical XJ lifter noise however it runs strong. AutoTrans works great and np231 is in great shape.

I am trying to decide whether I should build up this XJ or buy one of the locally listed clean low mileage rigs.

My plan was to purchase the following:

R/C X-series 4.5" suspension lift
T case drop
SYE
CV rear drive shaft
Dual steering stabilizer
4- 1.5" wheel spacer
5- M/T classic Baja bead 15x8
5- M/T 31x10.50-15lt
Smittybilt XRC front bumper with bull bar.
Smittybilt XRC rear bumper with swing out tire carrier.
Bush whacker fender flares

And a few miscellaneous things.

Now I have never built a jeep but I have built custom sandrails from the ground up from straight tubing. This included custom independent suspension, tube frame from DOM and engine/trans fab install so I am fairly confident I can put a suspension lift on a jeep.

My questions are:

Are there better lift kits available? I don't think I need a long arm kit I will likely be on the road more often than off road and whenever I go off-road it won't require extreme articulation.

Does anyone have any input on things to watch for or be prepared for when installing the lift? Obviously I am aware that bolts will seize, break or refuse to back out. I also know that I should use PB blaster or equivalent. I also own a large variety of mechanics tools as well as a torque wrench.

Ultimately I will buy a remanufactured 4.0 does anyone recommend a rebuilder that carries a quality warranty?
