I stumbled onto your thread and I'm glad I did as its almost exactly what I have going on with mine. The PO spilled a couple gallons of bleach in the foot well of the rear seat and it ate the carpet all the way up to the front foot well. I've been trying to figure out if I want to go the bed liner route or the preformed rubber floor. From a couple of other threads I read some people were complaining of the sound and heat increase. What do you think? I don't think the sound would bother me but my AC is currently inop so it's the main concern. How long did it take to roll it out and did you use a brush to get into the nooks and crannies? Awesome pics by the way.
Thanks I'm glad you found my thread. I used a brush on the edges and the hard to reach areas. It took me about 35 minutes to roll the first coat on. Then I waited about 2 1/2 hours then I did the second coat. I went over it with the roller after the second coat and it gave it more texture. I love this stuff. I was looking at it today. I thought it would be a little softer but it dries rard as a rock. This is some rugged stuff. I can not wait to start get this stuff on the body. As soon as I eind a new door for the driverside I'm going to start the body work. Tomorrow I put the new radiator in . If you go with monstealiner look for the online coupon and you can get free shipping and a free quart of chassie saver. One quart of chassie saver went a long way let me tell you.
I recently put new carpet in my xj, well it was new to me and in great shape from another forum user who rolled his xj.
I have shopped for months looking for the right liner to use as a sound barrier and prevent damage and rust on the floor pan. I live in AZ so the rust factor just doesnt happen.
A few years ago I had a leak in my roof and had to do the repairs myself. I bought Elastomeric, it worked great and never had any issues with any leaks. So I was reading the back of the can and it said its great on metal surfaces and has a rubberized coating.
Before the carpet went in I applied two coats of this stuff. You can apply with a roller but I used a brush as it was easier to get into the nooks and crannies. It worked great and was only a 1/4 the cost of Monstaliner. Its sound deadening ability has worked great as well.

I would have gone that route but I decided to not put my carpet back in. I bet your cab is quite with all those layers. Looks good! Thanks for stopping by.

I do not mean to threadjack, but the elastomeric seems like a great idea. Just wondering what gave you the idea, was it from past, use or is it an old carguy trick. Also was the sound deadening factor worth the effort? That is the only reason I would be using it for. thanks
xjtimbo, great work on the rig so far. Cant wait to see more progress!

I finally pulled my carpet up (inspired by your thread) and my pics are almost exactly the same as yours! I have rusting through the passenger floor only. I will continue to follow your lead and use liquid nails and rivets. I can weld but I'm not going to attempt it on such a thin surface when your patch looks just as good. I couldn't believe it when I took a step back and I thought it looked familiar and then I remembered your pics.

Nice rescue! I rescued mine from a lady that left it sit for almost two years!!!
That rust is a pain in the tuckus. Im glad I inspired someone to get out and rip out some carpet. That right there makes all these posts worth it. Wheres your build thread buddy?
Sorry for the lack of updates. Here are a few more crappy cell phone pics. I've been on vacation down in Cressent beach for the last 7 days. I had a great time and the last day we were eating lunch at this little hole in the wall seafood place on A1A and guess who comes in and sits down next to me?

Anyway back to the the grind. Literally! I woke up today and first thing I did was go to my dads house and start grinding. I had two rust spots on the upper back corners.

I grinded them out and treated the inside and out side with ospho its a marine grade rust inhibitor. It killed the rust.
Then I did a little bondo work and then sanded one side of the cherokee and primed all the bare metal.

By the way if your not sure who that is its Steve Spurrier.

By the way I hope to have a new to me camera as soon as I order a new battery and charger for it soon. That should cure the craptastic pics I have been using.
I got all the body work done today. If the weather allows I will roll the Monstaliner on tomorrow. Fingers crossed.

Looking forward to seeing it. Wonder what your father in law will say when he sees it all fixed up.
