Default Green XJ (Noob build)

I was given a 1995 Green XJ Country by my father in law. It was in very bad shape because he takes care of nothing. The brakes were bad along with a cracked radaitor, gallon of used oil spilled on the drivers floor (dont ask me how he managed that) bad alt, broken window, broken tail light, broken door handles, power windows that dont work, the list goes on and on.

I got started and I bought a new alternator and had it running in about a 1/2 hour. Then I replaced the brakes all the way around new rotors, pads, calipers, and wheel cylinders.

Fixed the pass rear window. Finished stripping the exterior. Found a new front driverside fender but it didnt fit (if anyone needs it let me know I'll let it go cheap). I thought I had more pics of the outside stripped. I'll do better next time.

I ordered the MONSTALINER for the floor. I gutted the interior and started preping the floors.

You can tell by the picks which side the oil was spilled. When I say spilled it was not cleaned up at all.

I have since putt two coats on the driverside front and rear floor pans and the passanger side floor pans. I have cut the patches out for the holes and will seal them up and rivet them in before I apply the liner. I only get to work on it a few hours a week. Sorry for the Horrible photos most of them are from my crappy phone.

I do have a quick question where do you move the plastic ball in the front bumper to. It sticks out like a sore thumb.

The diaganol support that comes off of the frame rail. One hole is in it already you just have to drill the other. That's rediculos how bad he let the jeep go. Nice to see her in good hands. What are your plans?

Thanks for looking I guess it is one of the more boring build threads! Your XJ is what I want mine to look like. What size are your tires and what lift do you have?
Yeah he really let it get out of hand. Once I get the dull stuff out of the way I can do the fun projects. I plan on doing black monstaliner on the inside and then OD green monstaliner on the outside. Then a rough country 4.5" lift with leafs and 33" tires and then some bumpers. But for now I'm going to rock the stock bumpers. I dont have alot of money so the build will be slower than other builds.

Today I worked for about an hour. I finished cutting the metal patches for the holes in the floor. Im sure Im going to get some flack from the way I attached the patches to the floor but 1. I dont have access to a welder and 2. I dont think it is a huge deal. I used liquid nail to seal the patches and then I used rivits to attach them to the floor. They are pretty solid now. I will next put two coats of the chassie saver followed by two coats of black Monstaliner.

I really like your build. I guess its because your fixing someones negligence. To me a cherokee really is a classic which is why i tend to like the restoration side of builds. Now is your chance to do the labor intensive stuff while money is tight. I went with a 3/3.5" IRO lift since I didnt want to do a SYE right away. I think 4 is perfect for a DD. The tires are the new rubicon tires. just under a 33 and about 10.5 wide. Keep em coming.

I know the rotors were toast. I cant beleive how cheap the parts are for these jeeps. I love it.

So the rims and tires are the same ones that come on the rubicons? I like the rims and the tires but I want to sooner or later put bead locks on. They would look good until then.
Im doing some work tomorrow and I should get a full day in on tuesday and another half day on wednesday. Fingers crossed

This is a great start. Way to go, for saving a Cherokee that surely would have died a slow, painful death.

You're off and running! good job dude! I've got an 89 in my backyard that had the entire rear floor rotted out in front of the hatch... We did the same thing with liquid nails, a ton of rivets and a big sheet of metal. Don't know what the inspection laws are in your state.. but for the panels behind the rear wheels, I just shot a bunch of spray insulation from the inside of the trip panels down in the holes to seal them up, then puttied over them. It wasn't pretty, but it passed inspection haha... And it's legal to do in PA, which means it's probably legal elsewhere

Im lucky I live in Florida. We did away with inspections about 15 years ago. Im glad to see someone else used liquid nails. It seems to have sealed it up pretty good. Thanks for checking out my build by the way.

Ah yes you lucky folks with your non-inspection. Of course as a trade off I believe you guys are a no-fault state when an accident happens? Correct me if I"m wrong though.

Gotta have the Liquid nails, definitely a budget builders best friend. I loved the idea of using the expanding foam for the holes though, they were pretty good sized, and it saved having to find something else to back them when we bondoed it back together haha.. Just spray, cut off the excess and slap a patch on there. We DID make the mistake though of covering the back of the Jeep before changing the shocks, and one of those stupid rear shock mount nuts busted off on the inside of the rail, so we had to drill out all the rivets on the passenger side, and pry it back up, but it wasn't too much of a hassle to put back down when we were done.

glad to see another cherokee saved, we're like the SPCA for jeep cherokees haha!

Storm clouds were rolling in and I got just enough done today so I can start sanding the floor tomorrow and get the monstaliner down. I got the chassie saver down before it started storming and everything is a go for the floor tomorrow weather permiting.
