Quote: The 2x6 are going to look killer. I appreciate the last photo, showing sortof behind the door, showing how much lower door skin you'll cut off. I'll be doing rockers on my beater...sometime.

Question: What happened with the rear bumper? Too much heat when putting in the shackle tabs? What would/should you have done differently? Did it need more bracing?
Thanks! If you want any specific pictures let me know, I'll be doing a write-up on them when I'm done.

When I cut the notch in the angle iron for the shackle mounts, it weakened the metal and it just pulled in when I was either tacking or welding. I'll post more pictures of it once I paint and reinstall it.
What I would do differently would be to clamp it down while tacking and welding, but most of all I'll double and triple check everything is straight before it's to too late to fix. I was just in a rush and didn't think of it pulling in like that at the time.

Edit: I was preheating the metal quite a bit before welding, so I'm sure that contributed to it.

Got the bumper painted. Haven't messed with the jeep much other than that

Nice build man i really like how the bumper edges transitions into the body and tailights. What did you use for paint?

Thanks! Rustoleum spray on bed liner. I'll probably never use it again, because I've yet to use a can that I didn't have to turn upside down for it to spray right. I'm not sure if that's a normal thing with them, but it drives me crazy

I use the stuff all the time too and it's about 50/50 on if you can spray it upright or not. Sometimes a can will work fine upright then go to use it again a month later and the same can has to be flipped, but it's cheap, good texture, fairly tough stuff so I plan to keep using it. The biggest problem I have is finding a store that sells it. Walmart used to, but last few times they didn't have it and I had to order it online.

I've never really had any luck with it spraying right. Just gonna stick to roll on from here on out. Only reason I used spray on it is because I'm gonna rebuild it before to long.

Just about everywhere around here sells it.

Interesting..... I've used quite a few cans and haven't encountered that problem.

Hmm that is interesting, I used it before when it was cold and thought that was the problem, but it was 75° when I did my bumper and none of them sprayed upright. I might try a few other brands and see if they have issues also.

lol.... 75 isn't "cold" but I will say it was probably in the 80s every time I've used it.

I do know that I shake the **** out of every can I've used too. Upside down, side to side, every which way I can until my arm gets tired. I dunno if that makes a difference, but it might I guess.

I love this rear bumper. I think he said he's building a new one, though.

I'm gonna make the same bumper over again, I just didn't like how this one came out with the warping and everything.

I'm baaaaccckkkk!

This project will resume right where I left off in about a month or 2 (need to get my comanche back on the road first).
Super excited to get back into working on the jeeps again! Hope all is well with everyone in here!

Things took a bit of a turn with the Comanche build (discovered some sketchy wiring and other stuff to deal with that would make it take way to long to get it back on the road, well, safely anyway haha).
So, I will be resuming this build asap (will hopefully have an update after next weekend). But I'll try and get some pictures of how it's sitting currently by the end of the week.
