DD WJ build
so i picked up my 01 4.0 selectrac wj for $2200 about two months ago and have been working on getting it daily driveable and mild-trail ready. it needed a lot of work when i got it but i did all the work myself so it hasnt been too expensive to fix up yet. so far im into it right around $5000 including purchase price. i basically bought it for the accessories and a near perfect leather interior.
work ive done so far:
rebuilt engine (to factory specs)- replaced the cracked head with a TUPY, replaced the pistons, cam, timing drive, lifters, all the bearings, freeze plugs, gaskets and seals, had a machine shop tank/surface/mag/hone the block.
overhauled the trans- replaced steels/clutches/seals/gaskets/filter gov solenoid and pressure sensor
replaced front cv axles
replaced water pump and radiator hoses
replaced cooling fan
resealed both diffs and axles
replaced rear pads and rotors
replaced plugs and coil rail
replaced coolant level sensor
flushed every fluid
fixed gear selector/indicator
resealed ac system
probably a few other things that i cant think of right now.
cosmetics: bought the roof basket and a few hella lights.
eventually going to replace front and rear bumpers, install spare tire carrier, gonna possibly do the tank tuck, lift it a bit more, throw on some flares and throw on a winch. but gonna need the money for that first.

well when i bought the truck the lady who owned it before me had the ASD relay out and a jumper wire between terminals 30 and 86. bought a relay and went to put it in and two of the pins in the junction box are spread, got them to at least touch the relay contacts and the jeep turns over but wont start. printed out a bunch of wiring diagrams and am going to get some diag done this weekend, there are also a few other jenky, hillbilly electrical fixes going on under the hood that i intend to fix as well.
the jeep also runs rough for about 8 seconds after its sat for eight or more hours, gonna change the fuel filter and check the bleed down on the injectors. its a brand new rebuild so it better not be a damn head gasket.
anyway, gonna be a fun weekend :/

after taking a couple weeks off of working on this damn electrical problem i got back on it this weekend. i tore our the dash and inspected just about every single connector for and signs of damage or corrosion and then applied some dialectric grease and reconnected them. i also replaced all 4 O2 sensors, partly because a shorted O2 could mess with the PCM but also because my mileage is lower than i think it should be. anyway, after putting everything back together i popped the relay back in and she fired right up. not sure what did it exactly but shes fixed for now. not a minute too soon either, i had given in and ordered a PCM from oreillys yesterday but luckily hadnt paid for it yet, so theres an extra $300 i can use somewhere else. anyway, it was a very good day.

Neato! looks like you've already put quite a bit of work into it. WJs can be pretty cool with time and effort, and it looks like you're off to a good start.

alright so things are switching up pretty drastically. so long story and i dont feel like getting into it, but due to a title discrepancy i am completely unable to register the WJ i put 5 grand into. so today i purchased a 2000 4.0 2wd WJ to swap everything into.
normally i would never consider a 4x4 swap but this is the only decent, clean titled WJ in my price range and location, and having a complete 4x4 donor jeep i figured id give it a shot.
picked her up today for $400. shes a little rough, the motor is completely shot as well as the tranny, but the body (other than the quarter panel) is straight and the title is clean. though driving it home we had to stop and charge the battery with jumper cables 3 times to get 10 miles, and by the time we were a block from our house all oil pressure was gone and the jeep died. we pushed that heavy son of a ***** into my driveway, opened the hood and smoke was pouring out of the dipstick tube and im pretty sure theres a super visible head gasket leak. anyway, still gotta drive it to my buddy's house but ill probably just get it towed. good thing ive got a freshly rebuilt motor to drop into it.
so over then next month ill be swapping over the engine and tranny as well as the axle. good times. got screwed out of about $2200 but i have a good feeling about my new jeep.
here are a couple pictures

Marklar, id be irate!
Im not saying that this is what happened to you, and im not asking you to go into it, but on this last jeep when i was getting the temp tags, the girl at the BMV was trying to convince me to check one of the boxes that would pretty much void the whole title. i told her that was wrong but she insisted and eventually relented with "well she will just make you do it at the title office"
In any case, im really sorry all that junk happened to you. Hopefully this turns out to be a silver lining and this new black jeep has GOOD surprised in store for you
