Gunna have to take the rock auto starter and use it. Have to remove the rear bracket from the old starter and modify it to work with the new one (weld some extra tabs of metal to it to catch the bolts). Unfortunately, I think that I left the old starter in the back seat of my dad's car which is currently 3 hours away at work with him.... Lol.
Been hard to get motivated when it's been 20° or colder the last few days. The rain, sleet, and snow we had a couple days ago didn't help either. So between that and trying to fix the brakes on Thor, diesel XJ hasn't gotten any love yet. She'll be running soon though.

Still been dealing with the starter bs. The new one that looked like it was correct and had the bracket wasn't correct. It's getting returned asap.

I honestly don't know lol. And bump starting a 30 year old diesel? Forget that. I'd rather modify the new starter to fit lol

Hey as long as the clutch is good it'll be fine. Lol I can understand the wait though, the weather on the east coast sucks. I haven't done anything because of it either.

Injection pump is still out, so I might as well put the effort in to make the starter work because it'll be 100x harder with the IP in lol

I don't think either of those should be a problem for bump starting. If it had a BA10 that's when I'd be concerned. Sounds like an AX-15 and 8.25 would be a good upgrade for the future. Yeah if that's the case you might as well while it's out if that's the case Lol either way it's nice to see this things still in progress and that you can still get parts for them.

Depending on weather, I might try and get it back together and running by the end of the weekend. We'll see lol.

Welp... Tried buying the correct replacement starter. Didn't work. Resorted to making the new starter work by swapping some parts with the old starter. Swapped the front nose piece, the actuator arm, and the ?copper? solenoid cylinder from the old starter onto the new motor and solenoid. Pretty much just adult Lego's haha.
Now all I have to do is throw it in the Jeep tomorrow and hit up my diesel mechanic friend to put the pump back in and help me get it running.
Enjoy the obnoxious amount of pictures of two starters. Lol.

This is just awesome i just read 24 pages and im stuck on the fact that i want one. even with all the hassles and issues with parts. the fact its a diesel stock is awesome. i would love to really see this thing roll some coal though. how much torque you think that thing produces?

And I believe they're rated at 85hp and 131ft-lbs. Extremely anemic by my standards since my other Jeep, a.k.a Thor, (project: keepin it clean) is pushing 400ft-lbs... Lol. Definitely won't be towing anything with the diesel, that's for sure.
But the 35mpg is hard to argue with. It's nice being able to get 1000 miles to a tank of fuel (32 gallon tank).
Can't wait to get it running again. Running out of things to rebuild/replace. Suspension is all brand new, tires are brand new, new brakes, injection pump is rebuilt, starter is brand new/rebuilt, injectors were checked and good enough. I guess the next project to tackle on it is to get the A/C working and convert the windows to power and finish putting on the 2nd gen power mirrors. And fix that darn floppy steering wheel tilt mechanism lol

It would appear that this thing uses 4.0 I6 engine mounts. Not 2.5 I4 ones. Go figure. Guess I'm making a trip to Quadratec tomorrow to exchange them. Lol.
Good news is that the starter is in and I put new glow plugs in too.

New motor mounts appear correct. Just been too cold/snowy to make any progress and put them in. Supposed to be getting hit by snowmageddon over the next few days..... If it holds out long enough, I might be able to get this thing running. We'll see. Almost wish I had parked it in the garage... Hindsight is 20/20 lol
