Cheap Transformation
My project is probably going to get a "Why" from a few of you but yall will be surprised when I show the total money spent.
I've got a 1991 four door I'm about to fix up. The thing is its two wheel drive.
SO..... I bought a cheap 2 door 4x4 I'm using for the axles(its a manual 4 banger) and wheels(aftermarket). I'm pulling the transmission, transfer case, drive shafts, and other odds and ends from a 4.0 4x4 this weekend from a junkyard down the road. And I got a new set of Super swampers for $150.
I'm keeping track of all the cash I have to spend. As soon as I get a chance this weekend I'll post pictures.
In case anyone wants to know why I'm doing this, the '91 jeep technically cost me nothing. I plan on parting out the 2 door when I'm done to get my money back from that. I am pretty sure I can convert this for less than $700. So far the plan is to show how cheap a 2 wheel drive can be converted to 4 wheel drive, so the first part of the build will be mostly stock. After that who knows.

I bought it believing they are 4.11's but I think they are 3.73. I haven't pulled the cover yet but I did the "jacking one wheel up thing". Anyway I'm a bodyman so I can get ahold of used parts cheap so I'm looking for a 8.8 and I'll swap out the front gears at the same time.
I work and go to school full time so I can't get around to taking pics till the weekend.

Due to a massive overload of homework and a rainy weekend, nothing was done except for pictures. I was going to fix up the red jeep but there is rust on the rear floorboard and since I am a bodyman, I avoid any rust repair. It had been sitting in some guys yard for sale for almost a year so I paid him 200 to pick it up.

Here is the one I'm converting. Unfortunately, that is a 2 wheel drive axle in the picture. At the bottom are the rims I got from the red jeep. I thought they were aftermarket but there is a Chrysler star on the back. Anyway, they are getting painted this weekend and having the 33 TSLs mounted next Monday.

I still don't have too much time to work on the Jeep. The spring semester is over in two weeks so I'll have a lot more time then. I have a final paper to write so I thought I'd start on my wheels. It'll give me a good reason to take breaks.
I cleaned, primed, and painted them black today. I'll let them cure overnight under a heater and tomorrow I'll tape up the inside of the spokes and paint the outside of the spokes and the edge of the rim silver.

I'm getting my first two years of my criminal justice degree finished. This semester I'm getting all my basic classes out of the way.
I haven't decided where I'm going to apply when I'm finished but I am going to get into law enforcement. I've been in the collision industry for the last ten years and I have been wanting to do something different.
