Holy S$&@. Its been two months since I posted last. I'm embarrassed to say I haven't done anything to the jeep since I painted the wheels. Since I work on cars all day it is the last thing I want to do when I get home. Things have been bad at work so I decided to take some time off next week and take care of a lot of the things I've been putting off.
I ordered the coil spacers, leaf clamps, and pins today for the BB. I'm picking up new GC coil springs Tuesday. I'm getting the tires remounted Tuesday since the paint peeled on my freshly painted wheels and I had to repaint them. My first day of vacation will be Thursday so I'll be spending the morning rooting around the pick a parts looking for the rear springs and whatever else I find.
It'll be a good Thursday. I only hope I can make it till then.
Unfortunantly I haven't looked for a transmission/transfercase so it'll be a wierd 4x2/4x4 combination. I'll just have to come up with excuses about why I can't take it mudding untill I do get them.

Major change in plans. At the end of August I decided I had enough of the collision repair business and left. Packed up my tools, dropped them off in my parents garage and decided to finish school. Since then I have been doing whatever auto repair (I thought I got out of that) and small jobs I can get while I finish school. Since money is tight, the conversion on my '91 ceased.......until
I ended up working for a guy on Lake Conroe building 4x4's. It is so much more enjoyable working on stuff I am interested in. Since I was helping to build a TJ with around $25,000 worth of work and the guy I work with had a Samuri on 38's and another on 33's, I couldn't work there without having a 4x4. The day after I started I bought this.
1995, 4.0, 5 speed, 4x4, It was a 2 wheel drive but someone already did the conversion and suprisingly, other than the stereo harness, there isn't any sign of anything being hacked up. The downside is it needs a motor but I might have a lead on one.

I'm doing what I can do for free or cheap while I'm searching for a motor. Since it had a two inch lift installed, I've mounted the tires, mainly so they aren't sitting in front of my house where they could magically walk off. The '84 is still sitting in front of my house so I am swapping out the doors, fenders, and header panel since they are dent free. I've welded the drivers side hinges back on and pulled the carpet and seats. Anything else I need for it I'm bartering for since I'm a starving college student.
By the way, if anyone wants anything off the 84 that I haven't stripped, let me know. Its going to the junkyard in a few weeks.

so let me get this right. If I came across a junked 5 speed 2.5 Cherokee I could swap the rear axle with mine and get 4.10 ratio? I don't know a whole lot about gear ratios but that would be a decent difference from my stock 3.07 right?

Yes, that's what i want to do too, but with the diesel...
Sounds like a plan. Although my chances of coming across anything like that is slim to none as there are no junk yards to speak of where I live. lol.
Any idea why they gave the smaller engine the better gears? Was it just a trade off? Less power but better gears?

Well because of the little power you need those gears in order to have some more torque.

No prob. Just a little FYI. The "84 I picked up. The one with the four banger and five speed. Didn't come with 4.11's. It had 3.73's. From what I've learned is the 4.11's didn't get put into Cherokee's until around '86, but I could be wrong. It's happened before.
I don't know what the wheels originally came off of since the previous owner swapped them onto the '84. I've seen them on CJ's before but I have no idea if that's what they came with. The only thing I don't like about them is the width, 7 inches. I might be getting a set of 15x8 steels from work and then I'll swap these onto my '91.
