The Beginner of all Beginner Builds
All in all, how much of a P.I.T.A. was the brake swap? how'd the pedal feel when you jumped on it? big differance? Jeep looks really good...

But to answer your question about PITA, it wasn't too bad once I started. I just had no idea what was required and the various different booster I could have used. It was a big unknown but the actual work wasn't very tough. I understand some of the XJ booster rod lengths are different from the ZJ and/or WJ lengths so it has to be shimmed. For me the rods were the same length but where it connects to the brake pedal was ofset on the original so I had to deal with that.
I'll update once I test it.

I'd say it's 10-20% better. I was able to lockup the rear on the street which was previously not possible. I think the weak area just got moved down the chain to the crap calipers. Going to go research if Grand Cherokee calipers are possible.

Thanks for the info. I might be happy with just later model XJ knuckles with one-piece calipers so I actually have a choice of hi-performance pads other than being stuck with OEM.

Finally got the YJ parking brake cable mod done... 95% done at least. Just need to bug my buddy with the welder to extend the threaded rod to the parking brake handle.

Just in case anybody thinks they don't need sliders. I've been very selective on what I try to crawl over but choose poorly and dorked it pretty good. At first the door wouldn't close and had to hammer the rocker back down. I bought this XJ just for wheeling so don't really care too much. Pretty sure I can pull it back down enough with a slide-hammer to get sliders on.

It's taken about 2 months to figure out how to make these parts work. What you're looking at is a sacrificial piece of the stock yoke welded to the end of the flange adapter to make it longer. Cutting the output shaft would have made the drive shaft too short. I got 2 drive shafts for an obscene price so I was determined to make it work.
Alternately I was thinking of a spacer between the adapter and drive shaft but I didn't like that idea.

Rock crawling without armor used to make my stomach turn every inch of the way. Now it just gives me the giggles when I hear/feel the armor come down on rocks. Plus I just drive straight now when before I would maneuver like a mad-man. Much better driving experience.
Aussie locker is loud as hell when making sharp turns. Even in 2WD on the street making a U-turn to bangs and pops (not minor clicking). While it was super cheap and does work as advertised I'm not sure I can take it much longer. I heard it will wear-in and 140W oil will help so I'll give it more time. I don't want to be negative because it did perform it's main function of locking perfectly.
