I've got a C8.25 rear, and I'm running the Rubicon Express extreme duty 5.5' LA kit. My 33's are wearing to their final miles and Id like to run 35's next. I'll probably go with Open Country MT's or Mickey Thompson Baja Claws. My question is would the C8.25 need to be strengthened to be reliable with 35's? Id like to avoid serious axle work as I just use my rig lightly off road with a little bit of crawling. Any tips or suggestions are welcome. I don't know too much about axles besides the fact that the C8.25 is stronger than a D35. Strong enough for 35's?

 

It is ok with 35's.......I have seen people using 37's on the 8.25

forget the open counties. don't get toyos. such a heavy useless bro truck tire. unless your getting them cheap/free take a pass on those

secondly, take yourself a second to google search stock axles on 35's. this is the hot topic this month for whatever reason, all the info is out there. you will need gears. no buts. $800 upgrade right there, otherwise consider your jeep no longer highway worthy and a huge pain on the streets. you just won't have enough power

what year 8.25 the 27 spline will work but a 29 spline 8.25 should have no issues with 35s the front axle would be more of a concern it will need beefed up. I also would suggest staying away from the toyo M/Ts not a big fan seen trucks and jeeps with them get stuck more than any other.

 

then you should be all set. just make sure it's a 29 spline like stang said. maybe toss in some chromos down the road and a locker, diff cover etc. gears are the most important ingredient

 

The C8.25 is a stock 99'. Honestly don't know if it's a 27 or 29 spline. You said the front D30 would need to be strengthened? To what extent?

 

If the Toyos aren't a smart buy, I'll keep my eyes on the Baja Claws. Open to suggestions when it comes to tires as well. Just want decent tread life for the road and performance off road. I'll definitely be regearing before I bother putting the new tires on

 

If it's a 99' then its a 29 spline

 

It's all on the Internet man. Start google searching d30 on 35's. honestly it depends on what type of wheeling you do, what carrier you're running, suspension, gears, etc. Spicer 760 ujoints with full circle clips are always at the top of my list. Can't go wrong there

 

Claws are relatively heavy, but I love mine. I run them at 10 offroad in the rocks and they haven't missed a beat on anything in the southeast. I'm running 35" claws, Yukon 4.56 gears, lunchbox lockers, and front chromos with no problems.

 

^ that sounds like a solid setup. Id like to regear before anything and throw in a front locker, probably a Detroit. I just got quoted 1900-2000 by a local shop for a regear...not happening. Anyone got any tips on places to get the regear work done in northern GA?

 

Depending ono how hard you want to wheel and in what terrain, an open carrier with a lunchbox locker would do you well i think.

Allsouth Autosports in Buford gets my reccomendation. Danny and his crew do great work at a good, fair price. Not the cheapest in town, but not 2 grand either. I know the gear guy there too, Todd always does a fantastic job. They only use Yukon gears and install kits, so the price i got quoted from them was higher than maybe another shop, but with everything it was $1700.=That was with my club discount since they own the club i ride with.

I belive Hudlow Axle in Rossville is roughly ~$200 an axle if you drop them off there. Thats only labor though. Still need to purchase gears and install kits.

Gears arent cheap.
