I know absolutely nothing about jeeps and just bought my first xj. 91 Laredo, 4.0 auto. gonna be strictly junkyard and mismatch parts. I expect to not spend over a grand. currently only have 200 bucks in it. only thing wrong is the rear end. plan on just welding it back

HAHA they tend to do more talking than working. I have an interesting find that i haven't researched yet. It blows a little oil and smokes out of the breather tube. Whats broken? valve hanging up? Or is it blow by? Doesnt seem to be down on power

Ordered new head gasket and valve cover gasket. Just going to run the breather tube down to the ground. Going to clean up the throttle body too, the oil was coming into the air box through the breather tube then oil was going back into the throttle body. Just throwing a tractor air filter on there

What you have is blow by. Not a huge deal if its a small quantity of oil, but could indicate a bigger problem down the line.
Install a catch can between the breather outlet and the air box. You can buy them, or for only a few bucks, you can make one. There are tons of videos on YouTube. Look it up and do that.
There's 2 reasons I say this.
1. It's cleaner for the trails and your car.
Blowing oil all over your frame is just messy.
2. It will give you an idea of how much oil you're actually using. And will let you know if the piston rings are just a little worn, or if its time for a rebuild.
