You can remove the wire from the back of the vents to put in the bug screen, then just put the wire back on to hold it all in place. Caulk around the vent and paint to match or black for the windows and you’re set.

I’m in Jackson. So a pretty good haul from Knoxville. Although I plan on being in that area soon on a 2 week trip. I’ve been wanting to go to Windrock for a long time now.
I might have to replicate that - thanks for the details, man!

I've only really driven through Jackson to get to Memphis (used to make that trip from Knox a bunch when my GF was in med school). West Tennessee seems to have some wheeling spots, but not as mountainous as the east side of the state. You should go to Windrock as soon as you can. I love that park, have been a bunch of times and haven't even come close to touching all of its trails. I still know some solid wheelers there so if you ever go, message me and I can get you in contact with them so you don't have to go solo (if you don't want to).

Thanks. I’ll definitely keep that in mind once I finally get that trip together

Default New Tires?

So, 2 of my KO2s have worn down to almost nothing in 20k miles. The other 2 have held up pretty well. I have no doubt this is partially due to the lack of an alignment after I lifted my Jeep. It’s aligned now, but the question is “Do I go back with 2 fresh KO2s, or spring for 4 new KM3s?” My Jeep doesn’t see much serious off-roading, but the KM3s look awesome. There’s also the small problem that the KM3s don’t come with white letters. I’m pretty fond of my white letters. Thoughts?

Default ARB Compressor

Well, my arb compressor came in today. Time to figure out where to mount it. I know the most common place is under the hood, but I’m really leaning towards mounting it in the cargo area somewhere. I don’t care much for the idea of having to pop the hood every time I need to air up some tires since it will be used for dirtbike tires as well. Plus keeping it in the cab will keep it out of the elements. I basically have 2 places in mind. Either inside the passenger side rear door mounted to the bed, or tucked in the empty cavity on the passenger side with rear hatch access. Decisions decisions....

I'm still rebuilding my Cherokee, so I have no idea about what tires are out there. But the KO2 with the white letters look like awesome "classic" off-road tires, like the BFG All-terrains I had on my lifted Ranger back in high school.

The KO3 is definitely an awesome, aggressive-looking tire. But I must say I'm partial to the white letters on the KO2.

Maybe buy some KO3s and get one of those tire painting markers to paint the letters...

I’ve thought about doing that. I painted the letters on my motorcycle tires, but that’s a motorcycle. Not a daily driver. I don’t want to buy them and then wind up having to repaint the letters every 6 months. Pretty sure I’m going to wind up with another set of KO2s even though the KM3 would look awesome white lettered. Maybe they’ll offer white letters on the KM3 by the time I need another full set lol. Most of my miles are pavement anyway.

Default ARB Onboard Compressor

It tucked into that cavity near perfectly.
Still have to cut a board to close off the space and mount the switch to, but you get the idea.

This was a fun one. I basically wound up completely dissecting the ARB wiring harness, because it was set up for 2 air lockers, a dimmer switch, and being tied to the ignition. Before you say it, yes, I realize it’s usually a good idea to have accessories tied to the ignition so you don’t accidentally hit the switch and let them kill your battery. However, the switch is located where the only way you’re going to touch it is if you actually intend to turn it on, and it will be used quite a bit for dirt bike tires. I wanted to be able to just pop the hatch and throw some air in real quick without having to have accessories turned on. With the top board of the bed/platform installed, I have just enough space to pull the hose out of that side cavity. I’m quite happy with where I decided to put it, and the performance. It took my 31” tire from 22psi to 33 in about a minute. And if you were wondering, yes, I do think it’s quiet enough to mount in the cab, if you’re not using it for air lockers. I was actually pretty surprised how quiet it is. Anyway, if you have any questions about the wiring let me know!

Default ARB Compressor Wiring

I stole the Switch ends from the original harness and spliced them in direct since I deleted all the wiring for the lockers. Just had to splice the red connector onto the red from the pressure switch, the red-ylw into the main red line, and the blk into the Blk off the relay. If you actually wire the Red-YLw to the ignition you won’t have to splice in to the hot wire since you’ll get the current from the ignition.

Lovin the white XJs with black !!! Not over the top, good build ! Check out the Firestone Destinations! I just bought a used set of BF Goodrich Long Trail TAs. They have the nice white letters too ! I'm not usually a fan of black wheels, but that looks awesome ! Looks like it came that way ! When I ever get a white XJ, black wheels will be on it ! Are those the Bajas? My XJ is the green pearlcoat. I just bought a set of Silver American Racing AR 23s to stick on it. Toying around with the idea of black centercaps and lugnuts !!! I've not seen it done yet !

Mine has Pro Comp 252 steel wheels in gloss black with 31x10.50 BFG KO2 All Terrains. I was really considering having this Jeep painted the moss green pearl coat when I have it repainted, but the white has really grown on me. I’ve tried to keep it like it would have been built if someone bought it new in 99 and modded it. Classic sized wheels and tires and old school lights.

So I'm looking into getting some rock sliders. Any opinions? Right now I'm looking at the JCR Offroad Classic Sliders and the Dirtbound Offroad sliders. They basically come out to the same price when shipping is figured in on the Dirtbound. On one hand I like the clean look of just a square slider, but on the other I know nothing about the quality of Dirtbound products.

I did not know you could have an aux port added to a stock radio. I’ve been wanting one but refuse to remove my original cassette player lol I’m trying to keep it mostly stock other than useful upgrades. Can you fill me in on how I go about doing this?

3” lift and 31s is exactly what I’m wanting to do. Did you have to do any trimming or have any scrubbing issues?

And great job on this build! Definitely one of my new favorites and will be following along.

My radio came from www.1factoryradio.com. They’re awesome. You can either send in your radio to have an aux or I think even full Bluetooth added in, or just buy another head unit identical to yours with the options you want if you’re impatient. My Jeep has the basic radio and I’m impatient so I just bought a new head unit. It’s roughly the price of an all new radio, but their work is top notch and you get to keep that stock look.

As far as the 3in lift, yes, there was trimming to be done. The front bumper end caps have been trimmed quite a bit. I’ve yet to have any trouble rubbing the flares though. Just the bumper end caps. This could obviously be solved with a new front bumper, but if you like the stock bumper be prepared to trim some. As my lift has slowly settled I’ve found myself taking a little more and a little more off of the end caps. Luckily mine are sprayed in bed liner so blending in after the cuts it’s super easy. If you don’t have a dremmel it will probably become pretty annoying but I can spend 5 min trimming and be back to no rubbing with a dremmel. That being said, I still highly recommend a 3in lift on 31s. It’s lifted and capable enough for just about anything short of hardcore rock crawling, and you don’t have to spend a fortune trying to get everything back in line like you do on bigger lifts.
