My leaf springs are worn out and saggin. they're a hundred bucks plus shipping apiece, ouch. I have a parts XJ available to me but it has saggy *** springs too. I've read about these "bastard packs" made with the main spring minus the bushing eyes added to the pack. I'm wondering if I should try this. I want to lift her but I am strapped for cash. I'm only looking for a few inches, I definitely don't have the cash to re-gear just yet.

Even if I build the bastard packs, I want to start with good springs. Do you have a pick?

Welcome to the forum deadmeat, That aside wrong section unless you throw up some picks of your jeep and show us what you have done.
on bastard pack they are more of an art form than a science, I have seen builds with only a few leaves and more lift to those with a lot of leaves and not so much lift

Thanks Kuro89, I bought my cherokee at auction last fall. It's my 3rd jeep. I started my "build" by bringing it up to good working condition, tune up, oil change, serpentine, AC charge etc. I had to mess with the doors to get the electric locks to work right, and a bunch of little **** like that. I had an i-pod compatible pioneer and new speakers installed last summer. And I just just swapped out my seats for much better used ones, and gave my interior a thorough scrubbing. I'M READY TO BUILD!

I've also put in a new power steering pump, rebuilt the drum brakes and some other crap. I got big plans, no money, and a million questions. Like, I'm wondering how big I can go with tires before I need to think about re-gearing?

that all depends on your ultimate goal, especially if you are on a budget, I have seen a good chart floating around this forum but it explains the trade off in mpg and power

I was told my a few jeepers that you can put s-10 rear leafs on your jeep and it will give you roughly 3"s of lift. Just have to go to your nearest pick and pull and find a good set that are not wore out.

I used another set of XJ leafs and got three inches. I forget what order i put them in. In fact until i hopped in the rig the next day i had forgotten i even did it.( it was a friday night) So far ive been very pleased with the ride.
