Where did you get your gears done? I don't know if you saw the other threads, but I have been having a little trouble with mine and might want to have a good shop look at them.

I used Aamco in Dover. They give a Infidel Jeeper discount, $400 in labor per axle. I recommend it. If you're on facebook look up Brandon Diaz, he's the manager there and sets everything up, very responsive and clear with any questions or concerns.

Thanks, I'll give them a try. Right now I'm looking fore somebody to fix what I got. Hopefully it can be salvaged.

Topped the coolant off and ran it today. Sat in the garage revving it for 25 minutes with the tach not passing 195. I'll repeat the process again before driving it to ensure all the air bubbles are out. Took just about 3 gallons, does that sound right? Also poured in a quart of new trans fluid to help top it off.

Almost positive the capacity of the cooling system in my '00 XJ is 3 gallons when bone dry. When I swap out my anti- freeze, which I do every other year by dropping the lower radiator hose (I use the green) , I usually end up using about 2 gallons to get her filled back up.

Drove it for the first time to the gym about 20 minutes and back. I feel like the motor isn't work as much with the new parts. I'm thinking I drilled the top hole too big on the thermostat to burp the closed system better since it still didn't go past 180-195ish. It was only around 70 here though so we'll see how it works when it gets in the 90s+, not too concerned until maybe the winter. Trans tunnel felt noticeably cooler compared to how it would be prior for the same drive. So far so good.

Wait, are you saying you're worried it's running TOO cold?

For now in the 70s around 195 it's fine, i'm thinking wheeling and in the 90s it'll be close to spot on 210. But in the winter months I'm thinking I might need to swap it out for a different thermostat.

Well nothing new. Jeep hasn't had any issues and life has been very busy so haven't wheeled. Most I've done is gone on the beach and romped it around in 4hi. Averaging between 18-20mpg now with the 4.56s. Took the dog to the park and was able to get him to sit for a couple good shots with the Nixon..

Some progress in the build. Booked my trip to go to RC on 11/2-3rd for a wheeling event a friend runs to help raise money for homeless around the Eastern PA Area. The event is called "Operation: Offroad to the Rescue - Second Annual" on Facebook if anyone else wants to join. $20 to help out and gets you 2 entry raffle tickets for the goodies at the end of the event. Last year I recall seeing a lot of Currie parts, plus a stand along food truck will be there. That gave me the motivation to get some work done. I've been planning on making mini sliders to go under the rear quarter panels so that nothing will get caught by the bumper hanging in the way plus to help strengthen the area under the folded floor. Used 2x4" 3/16" tube and some schedule 40 pipe to tie to into the stiffeners and shackle box. Should be plenty strong for some rock bashing, I was able to get all the weight on it from a jack with no creeking. Don't mind the crappy sheet metal to 2x4 welding, it was more to fill the gap and i'll end up running some sealant over it all.

I'm actually adding 2x6 under my rear quarters right there, but I'm attaching it to the bumper and plan to do a bolt on outrigger to the frame so the bumper can still come off.

That'll be nice. I opted to weld it up. The bumper I have tapers out toward the body so the corner isn't big enough to cover the 2x4. I could of gone 2x6 as well but this was on sale haha.

I have my eye on a single owner 87 4.0, 5 speed manual 2 door in pretty good shape, pretty minor rust. I really enjoyed the build, got some ideas for the future. Definitely keeping the original canyons and spacers and running 31X10.5 KO2's. Probably on a 3.5" lift Frankenstein with Core arms, Bilsteins, jks disconnects and some as of yet unidentified springs, probably RE, but keeping options open. Still researching some progressive rate options out there. Anyways, so very glad you documented your journey. Even more impressive to take a hand me down so young and keep it as cherry as you did. I do plan on following Cruiser 54's list prior to doing much else. That knowledge from a Jeep tech of the time may prove to help with the problematic aspects of these beasts...lol

Thanks again!

Also have an 05 LJ Rubi that is my offroad fix. #808 of 1000 offered with the Sahara package, so I want a nice mild build that I can tool around in for a change

That's a really nice LJ. Appreciate the kind words, I enjoy documenting and if that helps someone that's cool too. Message me any questions you might have and post a picture up of it when you get it.
