Bought this 2001 XJ at auction for $1,500. Blown head gasket, Warped head, power steering pump shot, bad universals, no brakes, totally trashed interior.
I started out repairing all mechanical issues and then went after the cosmetics, even pulled the entire interior out and power washed the carpet seats etc. and reinstalled. A year later I had a decent stock XJ to drive. Now to start the build. I installed a 3" lift with new shocks, Installed all new bushings, bought some used stock wheels and painted them black and finally 2 weeks ago mounted the 31 x 10.5 x 15 BFG tires. Things are finally looking up for this XJ.

Thanks for the complements. This XJ had 56k on it when I bought it. It had been sitting for a long time after it blew the head and before I bought it. All the universals including the hubs were gone, along with the other problems I listed before. Like I said it was a year of penetrating oil and lots of unbolting and replacing to get it even back to stock.
I even replaced all the bushings including the control arm bushings - what a pain!! They were completely gone - is this the norm with XJs that the control arm bushings rot out??
The tires are 31 x 10.5 x 15 BF Goodrich radial all terrains. I plan on getting the Jeep out there and real dirty this hunting season, I am usually on the beach every week now. I 'll post more pictures as I can.
