Got the oil pan removed, I had to unbolt the shocks and use a scissor jack to push the axle down further. Climbing in and out from under the Jeep to place the bolts in my template really kicked my butt.

I’m not really sure how I’m gonna get a torque wrench on some of these bolts. I definitely wish I had waited to do this until I removed my axle during the 4x4 swap... too late now.
You're doing great, especially for someone your age. Keep it up.
Use an extension, but the torque will not be affected. That's a myth that's easy to believe. In an impact situation it can affect the torque but with constant (hand) rotation, the spring rate of the steel in the extension is not a concern after say a millisecond of initial force input.

Not sure how clean is clean enough. The oil pan surface is pretty clean and I cleaned the bottom of the block with a plastic scraper and a rag and brake clean, so there is just some burnt on oil left.. I know you're not supposed to clean sludge off from under the valve cover, so can I scoop all the gunk out from the oil pan?

Great job, looks good. I soaked my new Rms in clean oil for a good seal. I also used anaerobic sealant, instead of rtv. I did use the rtv at the front and back of the pan( even with a felpro rubber oil pan gasket.) Also when you install the new upper half of the rms, use that little white plastic "shoe horn" included with the new gasket. It prevents the lip from ripping while you push it back in. Your motor looks good to me, great job! Keep it going. Are you doing the oil pump as well?
Mine before After
I used a razor blade scrapping tool to clean all the old gasket and stuff

I was going to but I forgot to order it. I think my pickup screen looks good, I only have 139xxx miles
I reused my pickup tube, just ordered a new melling. The old one just twist and pull out. Clean, then beat the tube in. I just put vice grips above the lip and beat it down into it.
Well here it is the, mine again, 2003 Mazda protege5. I sold it last year and have regretted it ever since so I finally texted the guy I sold it to and he was gonna scrap it because someone slid it into a median and he thought there was unibody damage. As far as I can tell it just needs a control arm.
Got the parts for the Mazda today. Waiting for the other RMS I had to order which should be here Tuesday. I'm getting really eager to drive my Jeep.
Current to do list:
Finish RMS
Install new oil pressure sender
Install new temp sender
Paint fresh metal on the underside
Seam seal needed seams
Replace windshield
