It is nice to see you do things the right way from the get-go. A friend of mine put on a long arm kit from Serious Off Road. His has such a smooth ride I can't believe it is an XJ. Love the red and black color scheme too.

Thank you for the kind words. I wasn't sure on having a red vehicle at first, but now I LOVE it!

Put a hand throttle in tonight.. Also, got a 1 inch die for the tube bender, it's almost roof rack time!

Hand throttle:

Thanks! Should come in handy.. I'll use it most when I get OBA and when I get my winch mounted up.

Is this build still going? Looks good! I'm just curious where the hand throttle comes in handy if a clutch still has to be used? Or I assume it's just used in first gear on rocks? We don't have too much rock crawling around here...

Yeah the build is still going, just very, very slowly. I just got a new job and haven't had any time to do much. I'll be installing my cb radio within the next few days, I'm just trying to find a decent place for the antenna (3ft firestik) most likely it is going on the driver side fender opposite the radio antenna with a mirror mount.

As far as the hand throttle.. If you play in the rocks, you'll notice there are many times you'll need a third foot. One foot brake, one foot clutch and the hand for throttle. It also makes it very convenient for keeping the rpms up while winching or with OBA.

Just taped the antenna with some masking tape (ghetto I know) to get an idea of how it would look on the front fender... Feedback?

I prefer looks-wise on the rear bumper/tail light, but that's just me. And thanks for filling me in on hand throttles!

No worries!

I thought about the tail light mounts, but I am not a fan of a single bolt from the taillight to mount the antenna off of. I do like the rear corner on the side of the body, but then if I change my mind I'll have 4 holes to deal with.

Fenders are easy to come by if I ever change my mind. The other reason I'm leaning towards the front is I'll have a visual of what clearance I'll have, as the antenna will be the highest point..

I would mount it to a rear tire carrier, but I don't have one YET.

I think taping the antenna is a great idea, while I was wheeling through the woodsy areas out here my antenna was whipping all over. The tape would minimize scratches. I really would like to get a better antenna but for now I'm just living with what I got.

No no the tape was just for visualizing where To mount it.. A mock up, if you will. It was there for all of 25 seconds.

CB and antenna installed! The lowest I could get the SWR to was 2.0 on 1 and 40.. A bit high but it will be ok.

The control module for the cobra 75 is mounted in the drivers side kick panel behind the hood release lever, completely hidden.

This was the hiccup on install..

1996 2 Door Build-image-2265783268.jpg

The wires in the coil had separated from the 5 pin connector.. Took awhile to diagnose because I thought it was a power/ground issue. Soldered the connections back and the radio works 100%
