One thing I do for mine is keep it right at 2000rpm if I start accelerating I'll let it go to 2200rpm max. I'm probably getting around 17mpg with 31x10.5's and a bunch of armor. You just gotta learn how to work the gas. You could also look on Eccomodders for ideas on better mileage.

Be careful! A free flowing exhaust just means more fuel consumption dude. Keep it stock I swear that's the way to go! Don't touch your intake either. More air coming in means your xj will allow more fuel to mix the proper ratio. All this does is make more power but not better fuel mileage. Its all in how you drive man....the quicker you get up to speed in lower gears....without flooring it...will make your xj work less. The less your on that brake (which means coasting to more stops earlier) will prevent in wasted energy that you used to get your xj rolling. Easier gas + less brake = more mpg

HA! I put a long tube header, 2.5" straight pipe, and a high flow cat on mine and I'm sitting pretty good on MPGs. I got around 30 on my last biggish trip. The easier it is for air to move in and out is the key to efficiency.

I totally agree with you on the driving stuff though, I couldn't have even dreamed saying it better.

30 mpg in a Jeep? Mines an 01 completely stock. I drive basically only highway miles every day and I get under 18 when i drive it real easy. How is 30 possible? That sounds so good.

He might meant 20. I got 20 with mine mainly Hwy 55-60mph stock. Lift and steel with 31s brought me to 17-18mpg
