So, in my last post I talked about raptor lining my Heep and wanting to new gears. I said that I wanted to find 4.10 gears at a junkyard and I did! Sorta. So I went and found a Ford 8.8 with 4.10 gears and I bought an 8.8 swap kit. Nice. I also searched and found an HP30 with what I thought said 4.11 from a manual 4 cyl Jeep. So right as I was about to build it I had a gut feeling to check the gearing. To my surprise, I opened it up and found that it had 3.73s. Huge let down. The axle actually said 41.11 but it was so hard to read that I thought it said 4.11. anyway, now I need a new axle. I went on marketplace and saw a 4x4 shop selling a HP30 with 4.56 stock from and old MJ. For 200$ more than a regular HP30 I couldn’t go wrong so I picked it up and did a one piece conversion with new u joints. I dremeled out the seal on the right side to fit a stock axle seal because the small ones they sell are garbage. I also did the WJ brake swap with Napa premium rotors and Akebono pads front and rear. This also included swapping a zj prop valve. For the back I welded the tubes and did a swap kit on it. I’m now faced with an issue. It needs regeared. After getting a 1500$ quote from a shop I bought 500$ worth of tools/parts and got my hands dirty. I regeared it and I’ve gotta say it’s not as hard as everyone says it is. I wanted to put in a full case locker but with funds tied up in the swap I decided to go the Spartan locker route. I might sell it later but who knows. While I was assembling I figured why not and bought a set of ome leafs. Will update with how it rides. Everything is now put together and I’m enjoying my XJ with 35’s. Finally. The bushwackers aren’t fully installed yet because I’m waiting to weld up my new bumper.
