Hello everyone. I just bought a 1996 Cherokee SE that needs some love and I was wondering if anyone knew a good shop I can take it to so I can have a few things done. Mostly routine maintenance and an overall inspection as well as have a new CPS installed. Thanks for any input.

Welcome to the forum! What all needs to be done. If it's mainly routine maintenance we can just get a wrenching party going on and save you the cost of shop labor.

Yeah mostly upkeep stuff. I wanted to check my timing and maybe get a new belt (i dont know how old the one on there is). Grease all fittings and change diff fluid as well as transfer case fluid. I also just wanted someone to give it a good once over to give me an idea of what else might need to be done.

So any thoughts on what to do or a name of a good shop?

I say we do a wrenching party and get a few Jeepers to help knock it all out quickly. I don't have a timing light but I'm sure someone does. Is there a reason you want to check the timing? Any misfires or rough idling?

No not really. Previous owner wasn't very honest up front so I just wanted to check everything. It has stalled on me once when I was pulling into the autoparts store but hasn't happened since. It also drops pretty low in the rev range whenever I left off the gas. It needs front end work too, feels very loose on the highway are there are a lot of pops and noises when running over bumps.

Sounds like a good clean up on your throttle body and electrical components is needed. The popping and looseness up front could be a few things (TRE's, balljoints, and/or hubs most likely).

Well im free all weekend and have plenty of beer if you are bored and want to learn me a few things. Checked with napa and he said there are about 100 different options for TREs on my jeep so he said i would have to remove them and bring em in to see which ones i need.

That will work, I might be changing my fuel pump or at least inspecting it. I had some weird throttle issues today. It was driving fine and then randomly it wasn't getting power when I pressed the gas, only happened for about five seconds at around 30mph

Just know that to change the pump you gotta drop the tank.

Hmmmmm, maybe that can wait then. I am beginning to really love this forum. I am learning something new everyday. I guess my throttle issues could be as simple as a TV cable adjustment or a throttle position sensor. So I will give those a try first.

Adjusted the TV cable and everything seems to be ok. I also replaced my tie rod ends, drag link, and track bar, and the jeep drives like a dream now. Next step, lift kit!!!
