Oil pressure issue
I have an 01 Cherokee with 200k and the oil pressure drops way low at idle when engine is at operating temp. I have changed the sending unit and changed to 10w-40 oil. Should I put in a manual gauge? Any one better than the other?

This is a very common problem in the 4.0L world. If you've done what you've said, try hooking up a mechanical gauge. Any mechanical gauge will work. If your problem continues, try changing the oil pump. You can also check the oil passeges in the head. Make sure there's no clogging in them. You can also switch to straight 40W or even 20W50. I'm currently in the same boat. I've done everything listed and still have the same problem. I'm just replacing the motor. I've done concluded I've fried the mains.

Uh, to my recollection, oil leaks shouldn't cause an oil pressure issue, unless its like a cracked oil pan and you lost all the oil. (generally speaking)

Oil pan gasket will not cause loss of oil pressure, if you are using a fram oil filter i'd change that first.wix or puralator.jeep engines seem to have problems with fram filters. it may have been the 4.2's and not the 4.0's but for 7 $ its worth a shot .

The oil pan is on the low pressure side of the oil system. The oil pressure sender in on the high pressure side.
Pop off your oil filler cap and see if it looks like black mud everywhere. If it does I reckon you need to clean out your valve cover and around your push rods.
I cleaned mine out. Ran a can of engine flush. drained. Partially filled with some cheap oil then drained again (to remove any extra engine flush). Filled her up with some valvoline 50w racing oil and my oil pressure is at 80 on anything other then idle.
I'm not saying you should run 50w but I am saying I haven't had problems with mine since.
