So I am at work today and this guy I talk to 'bout Jeeps stops in just to tell me that the other day he was out on some trails and hooks up with some other guys from the area and they get to BS'n. He says my jeep comes up in the discussion, and basically the way he described it to me was that I'd better keep a close eye on it cause the way they were talking it sounded to him like they were discussing Stealing MY JEEP! They made suggestions like they would have it one day and according to him it wasn't by coming and making a financial offer to me. Now, although I don't know him well enough to say this isn't some type of weird prank, I don't really see the logic in making something like this up just to stop in and make small talk. What the Hell do I do with this info? I already had some idiot smash and grab some stuff once out of my ride a while ago (broad daylight on a busy saturday afternoon nonetheless) and the place where I work has NO security cameras and could care less anyway. Their policy is they will not be held liable for anything that happens out in the parking lot, but if your a customer I can assure you they will bend over backwards for ya! One of my friends suggested I alert the local PD but seriously, they aren't going to post a car just to watch over my stuff. Ever since the Jeep got busted into I only park directly in front of the store, but I still don't feel that's enough to stop somebody who really wants something. I mean do you ever see anybody approach another person when they hear a car alarm going off. No. Everybody just assumes that some dummy accidently set it off and can't shut it off fast enough. When I am in the store I'd probably never even hear an alarm going off anyway. What would you do? Ideas?

Yeah the police can't do anything about it until it's actually stolen.
Kill switch and lojack.
An alarm might not be that bad of an idea though. It still attracts some attention. If you have a house, buy a motion activated flood light.

Take a pic of your fave firearm right this is what watches my jeep on the photo and hang it in the window. Joking or not it will make them think twice. Just reading the pic will make them nervous

Keep your (perceived) enemies close. Go out on that trail as often as practically possible. Be your own detective in-advance. Bring a camera and snap photos of as many faces and license plates as you can. Put together a folder (or scrap-book), do your home work and build a correspondence table of faces, SUVs, license plates, names, home addresses, and etc. If/when any such dastardly deeds are done then you can do your own in return - or simply find and turn in the dirty dawg that done the deed.
All of the above is good advice but, if a thief wants something bad enough then they're going to get it. Remember that locks/alarms only help to keep honest people honest. Install a kill switch hidden under the hood. Marine switches work great and are rated for any amperage it will incounter on your xj. I work on a boat and park in brooklin ny for two weeks at a time. While I have been broken into, no one has been able to start my rig.
