i have a friend with an xterra on 35s and he hasnt had problems. the only legal place is the beach with a pass, there are a few trails here and there but nothing thats challenging for even a mild rig.
hey im from the island too like they all said really nothing but the beach. i know of a few illegal places local to me but have yet to go to em and i dont think im gonna. you should check out the l14x4 club im lookin to join in a few months. they do trail rides every month and they look pretty fun to me

When i lived on LI we used to get permits to wheel on the beach just have to take it easy no crazy stuff. Also there are plenty of spots out in the mastic area i think they should still be there.
i found some good muddin and trailin on the island and im pretty sure its legal because i waved to an scpd cop chillen at the entrance on my way out covered in mud and he didnt even give me a second look. there was some decent stuff too. i have a three inch lift nd procomp m/t's and i got stuck in a mudpit at one point. did some bushwhackin through old unused trails too that was really cool

bksm8, im from sayville so i know your pain. but the farther east you head the more there is to do offroad and the beach gets really boring after you've hit every cut. theres some stuff thats alittle closer to home but its not legal, still fun tho.

uh yea, if you wouldnt post about exactly where these spots are, it would be nice. some cops dont give a crap, i've been out in places where the cops have gotten out and taken pictures and BS'd with me and my buddies about jeeps, but there have been times where i've been escorted out of places under threat of arrest/fines/jeep getting impounded.
so YMMV. that and the sandy mud out there is ****ing terrible for your car. when it gets wet like that it just lets the sand go wherever the whatever is, wearing out bearings and seals. tis lovely.

im from sayville and i have alot of friends, while not on the forum, but alot of friends that would be very interested. most of us have lightly modded trucks so we dont do alot of intense wheelin, but im down for it. let me know what you have in mind.
