The reason I ask is because the knock sound that I think is the manifold is coming more from like right under the drivers door. I can't hear it much when I'm in front of the engine

The best way to check for an exhaust leak is to have someone hold there hand over the tailpipe and you will hear any big leaks. Or just lay under it and look with a good light. When my old renix roached the mani it was a nasty hiss that it made but mine cracked at the two to one collector.

You should start by doing an oil change and getting that Lucas garbage out of there. Lucas's fuel system cleaner is about the only thing worth a damn. When you do an oil change REPLACE a half to a full quart of oil with Marvel Mystery Oil. Your engine will love it an it should quiet things down for you.
An exhaust leak typically makes a ticking sound that gets louder as engine rpms rise.

Exhaust leaks sound different depending on where they are. mine still leaks at the header.... it sounds like a top end tap in the motor.... where as in the muffler is sounds more like coughing rapidly, to me anyways....
I also agree wih the above though, get the lucas crap out! Do a clean oil swap with a decent filler.... and then move on to the exhaust leak.

The PureOne is a good filter in my opinion. Just changed the oil this morning, so if I swap oil I'm keeping the same filter. I think the sound I'm hearing is the exhaust manifold leak getting worse. It sounds like a lifter tap, but its coming from under the engine. Everything on the exhaust after that is brand new, so I know its not a muffler.

Also to add..... don't use any engine cleaners either. If you really want to clean it out well, drain the current oil, put new oil and a filter in, run it until it gets up to temp, and do an oil change with the oil still warm... just don't burn yourself. Oil flows quicker and easier when it is warm and can pull more crud out with it. When you're done, replace the filter, put fresh oil in, and some Marvel Mystery Oil and you'll be good as gold. Just remember that if you add a quart of Marvel Mystery Oil you must remove a quart of oil. Remove the same amount as you are putting in. Otherwise you will overfill your oil.

Quadratec is usually cheaper then hoaks.. and they have free shipping right now... and if you call in your order, they are even willing to negotiate for a lower price.

If you are just going to use a lunch box locker why don't you just weld the spider gears. Neither the welded rear or a lunch box are going to be great on your tires on the street. Both will act about the same at least in my experiences it has been pretty much the same other than the dent in the pocket.
