every manufacturer does stupid stuff. yes, most general maintenance items are easy on Euro cars, but at the same time there are Volvo's that require you to remove the accelerator pedal to replace the cabin filter, remove the PS fluid reservoir to replace the oil filter, replacing anything electrical(ie:throttle body, ECM, tcm, gauge cluster require the VIDA scan tool to download software into that component for it to even work, and other stupid things like that. Volvo and Ford are in bed together. if you like/are able to work on Euro cars, everyone loves it because the labor times are phenomenal for a flat rate tech. Audi calls for 5hrs for the pass side motor mount in the 2.0t cars, I go them in 15 minutes. 4.5hrs for a thermostat that takes me 25 minutes. BMW valve cover with the integrated pcv valve is around 5hrs, I do it in 1.....so yes, if you can work/understand Euro cars, you will definitely prefer them as a profession over American/jap cars.Originally Posted by bighouts5591
Just going from my personal experience, we've never had any big issues with any of our German cars, and my family has had A LOT of them. I have had a fair share of problems with American cars and they are often a pain in the *** to work on. Ford will design a car as cheap as they can and not care about who has to work on it down the road. Euro cars seem to be designed with maintenance in mind to keep it simple, ie pretty much every Euro car uses the same size oil drain plug, its a gamble with a ford. My brother was a Ford dealer tech and is now a Volvo tech and likes working on the Volvos so much more.

Did anyone else have a passenger side door lock problem? Both my passenger side door don't unlock or lock with the main switch and the switch on the passenger door? How do I fix it?
