I was curious if the coil rail had to be removed or if there was enough room to move it and get at the plugs with an extension... also reminds me, gotta look up the proper gap... .035 it is

 

The shroud was not put back on when the swap was done because it cracked. I've got to get to junkyard or have one of you handsome devils to get one for me and I guess I'll get my hands ready so I can get the shroud put on

Happy Tuesday Mernin. I forgot to mention that when xj overheated the steam was not coming from the rad,but from the side where overflow is located. I'm kinda broke until 3rd of the month. what if anything can I do until I can get this work done? I still need to drive daily,but less than 5 miles 1 way to get to doctor and grocery store. I just made all these appointments to get some long over due lab work and testing done.

 

I have not had a shroud on my last 2 Jeeps. There is not one on my current Jeep. It is NOT the sole reason you are overheating. It will be less efficient in controlling whatever IS wrong...but it is not what is causing the overheating.

 

Keep her full of coolant and watch the temp gauge.

 

There is a rust colored stuff that has sprayed all over the place and also the lingering oil from roll over. can I just purchase engine de-greaser,spray her down and hose her off without hurting anything?

 

In the rad or in the overflow bottle. what was that chocolate pudding like stuff in the overflow bottle?

 

I kinda figured that the missing shroud was not the reason for the over heat issue.*** also said it was not an issue if shroud was missing,but I think i'll get it because it is supposed to be there

 

mava, as long as you keep the overflow bottle tip top the rad will stay full so just keep an eye on that and the pudding stuff is a lovely mix of degraded coolant, impurities cooking out of the water and the degradation of the radiator and all the other dirt that makes its way into the overflow tank and then gets sucked into the system. No worries, its an easy fix with a good flush all that crap will get cleaned out.

Shrouds at the yard are hard to find. In one piece that is. Best bet would be to epoxy repair the shroud if you still have it.

x2. I would look at your mechanical fan clutch, water pump, and your radiator.

 

As far as i know, you want it to be at the lower line when cool, and the upper when hot. The only reason the overflow tank fills up is because of overheating, as the controlling valve is the radiator cap, which only opens at above 16psi.

Now that i think about it, check your rad cap as well. If its bad it may open up when it isnt supposed to. Which could cause overheating.
