I dont see where it can be illegal. If you had a wrangler you can have them off, so why not anything else??? Then again, it is the commonwealth of PA. LOL

i dont think taking the doors off is illegal but you will need to put the mirrors on the body some how because without the mirrors it is ilegal i did this with my f150 never had a problem jusy made my mirrors mount on to my door hinges when the doors were off

Do motorcycles have doors??? Wranglers doors are made to be removed Some dealers have wranglers on the lots with the doors off..
Make sure you wear your seat belt & have mirrors

Yeah you can take them off but just have to get mounts to put your mirrors to put then on the body to keep it legal. If you do not you will get pulled over right away trust me!

I think the issue is that on CJs, Wranglers, Scouts, old Broncos, and others, removable doors were an option, whereas on the Cherokee they weren't. That might affect the legality of the mod. That plus the cops attitude.

It varies from state to state, so check your state's Vehicle Code.
Some states will require that doors remain on vehicles that weren't designed with removable doors from the factory - and that's the sort of information you'd be looking for...

here in ontario, you can have your doors off. you don't need to relocate any mirrors, as long as you have your rear view mirror in tact.
but having side mirrors is much easier. but i ride in my tj with the doors off all the time. no side mirrors, just the rear view.
look up the law in the HTA, that will have your answer.

Check with your local PD. I took mine off in jersey, had oversized mirrors on both sides and was wearing a seat belt, cop wanted to impound it for "unsafe vehicle" bs. Yes it's a Jeep, but if they can't be removed in stock form from the factory, modifying them to be removable is illegal. Don't make the same mistake I did. It isn't worth the ticket and possible impound. Check with them to make sure you butt is covered before you do it.

don't ask the cops, they don't know chit.
call your dmv or ministry of transportation, they are the only ones that know for sure.
trust me, i just had a cop pull me over for an unsafe vehicle, he gave me an invite to the mto safety lanes to have it inspected by the ministry of transportation.
all i needed was a rear license plate light. he gave me a paper to prove to the next cop that it has been inspected and is safe.

i know that in ct you have to have some kind of lip at the bottom of door like xj's do and like the tub in a wrangler. my buddy had a dodge that he took the doors off and was ticketed because the floor of the truck just dumps out the side.

You may have trouble, depends on the cop and/or your driving.
I have heard that CJ's don't need doors because a base model CJ came WITHOUT doors, where as YJ and obviously XJ came with doors. Mirrors would be an issue like stated above. I was working right at 63 and Blair Mill Road in Willow Grove last summer and a nasty looking big a$$ black XJ went by without doors. I heard him coming which is why I turned around to see what it was.
