It always annoys me when someone gets on a forum & brags about doing something that's clearly prohibited/unsafe & figure it's okay because he/she got away with it ... so far.
"Oh, I drive 80 mph with no sway bars & I've been doing it since I was a in pre-school" or: yeah, I have my windows tinted 10% all round blah, blah ..." or: "dude, I wheel the neighbor's land when he's away all the time ... I never get caught".

Okay I'm exaggerating, but you all get the point. You might not fail inspection anymore in Jersey, but that doesn't make it legal or right. Windshield tint is illegal without a medical pass! So is front window tint. Keep quiet about unsafe practices or PM them. It's not cool to brag in an open forum about these things because it could encourage others to do the same. I might be the person you run down because you can't see out the window.

Maybe I'm just cranky ... but IMO hauling around several pounds of steel at high speeds is enough of a hazard without adding to it.

to back up what your saying station wagon. just because the DMV doesn't get you for it in inspection doesn't mean its not a rule anymore and the cops can't get u. for an example i went through doorless no problem. but when i cop sees me with no mirror by all means can he write me a ticket.

and i drive 85 with no sway bar

I think saying it on the open forum will keep others from doing stupid things........at least we can explain why it is stupid..........if it's a pm no one will be able to help

FYI - you can't fail inspection for tint, glazing or lamps out, not even rust. Only can fail for emissions. However, each of these things are still cause for tickets and being pulled over in Jersey. As a matter of fact you can even go to inspection with the lic plate just sticking in the back window and the front plate missing. Can still get a ticket, but not fail inspection. I know, I'm a NJ Inspector...LOL

its a true story, i went through doorless and muddy and they kinda just laughed. they still ran all the tests and told me what was wrong with it but couldn't fail me. they seemed kind of upset that they couldn't fail me though. anyways they told me i could get a ticket for all my infractions right then and there if there was a cop present.

What I was saying was for two months I have been testing things. The cops are laying back on a few things. As long as you are driving with sense, I think the cops will leave you alone. The tinted winds and the plate covering are technically illegal. Tenafly is great for writing tickets. Been up and down Route 4, 17 and 80 in Bergen county. Passed a lot of cops, I really don't think they had an issue, I think DMV was pushing it.

However 50% really isn't dark, but is considered sunscreening by DMV standards. And I am trying to get the law changed for tints because of solar glaring on windshields. I'm going to ask for about 40% on the windshield and front side windows. It does not cause blindness at night. It's like driving in Mahwah after 8pm, with just headlights.

There are a lot of things ppl do that are illegal, and I did most of which in front of cops. An audience here is nothing.

Willys55... I know about the front plate. I was one of many to have the state drop the front plate. How many cops can read backwards?

96xj.... U still have a rearview!!! If a cop gave me a ticket, I wud tell him, " I stuck my head out and looked over my shoulder!!!!

And I do have a medical tint card... I can still get pulled over like everyone else.

Cops get pulled over in their own vehicles... Seen it and some have 30 or darker on the POV's with or without the blue line decal. I think 40% should be allowed. At least that much on the windshield and side front. I think that will be the new petition to draft this coming week.

Not to beat a dead horse, but yea, as of august of 2010, only have to pass emissions. I have my rears tinted out without the front, it really doesn't concern me lol.

You take one encounter with a " not so inviting" police officer and classify them all as having their heads up their asses? Everyone has a bad day. It's not his fault he was doing his job considering YOU didn't have the plate where it should be. Thats like me calling a cop a ******** for writing me a speeding ticket for doing 80mph in a 55mph zone... Be accountable for your own actions.

cops don't really mess with me in my small town but i know it is a law you have to have at least one side mirror. i use my mirrors alot so i kind of miss not having them when i'm doorless. if you notice some old nissans and toyota cars they only have one on the right side

i understand they have a job to do, but its not the first time and not the last time either where i got hassled because of my address, i lived in the less desirable part of mahwah would get pulled over for nothing, i dont speed, dont drive aggressive....even got a hard time because i ran out gas...sitting on the shoulder on 17 in paramus, pulls behind me, told him i ran out gas and he told me cant park my jeep there....really?!? thanks for informing me that the shoulder wasnt a parking lot....only met one respectible police officer in rochelle park, when a u-joint on my rear driveshaft blew...tow truck wasnt gonna be there for awhile, he blocked the exit so my friend could pull me off the highway and into a parking lot

True. Leonia pulled me over for not having a front plate. It got damaged on my old jeep and was considered an unclear plate. Was asked to take off the rear cover on my plate. I eventually put it back on. He was being nice cause my wallet and credentials were home on my dresser. Taking it off was my out for no license! I think he liked my plate or how my jeep sounded when I accelerated! LOL!

Yeah. I think Cops like Jeeps. Most Jeep owner in the Hackensack, Teaneck, Englewood and Leonia area get treated good. Well, Cherokee and Wrangler owners!
