Anyone know of any trails near grantsville maryland or new germany state park. My buddy has a cabin on pea patch lane outside of Grantsville so was just wondering if there was anythin of interest out there.

Wink Wheeling near Grantsville, Md.

Hi, I am the President and Conservation/Land Use Director for the Middle Atlantic Four Wheel Drive Association. I have been involved in Land Use and the Maryland DNR for nearly 27 years now. First, there is no four wheeling on any Maryland State Parks. There is a limited amount on the Maryland State Forests. Maryland politics is not so friendly toward us. On the other hand, the Maryland DNR is friendly, but only as much as our liberal politicians permit. Historically, we have had some really nice access, but always on a limited basis. Since I do not want to jepordize what we have worked so hard for, I can not go into details here. Contact me through the Middle Atlantic web site. I can explain. Even so, if you just want to jump in your Jeep and go wheeling any given weekend, at least at this point, it ain't happening on our State's Forests. With that being said, I am on a committee of the DNR looking at establishing various sites to wheel, ATV, snowmobile, etc. Regardless, I can tell you, we get nothing for nothing. There is a site near Kitzmiller and another off of MD 560 under consideration. Unfortunatelly, everything is very complicated. Also, the ATV crowd tends to want to hoard these sites. Mind you, irresponsible ATV'ers have cost us outstanding access. Poplar Lick and the Green Ridge ORV loop have been closed as a result. Hope to hear from you soon.
