Default Adirondacks

So im from Ohio and have never been northeast. The wife to be and I are planning a trip to the Adirondacks with the jeep, a tent, and a canoe. Im just looking for some good back country exploring. Ive printed tons and tons of info off the web. But I'd kinda like to hear from the people in the area, any scenic logging roads or old dirt trails to hit with the jeep or hike. Here's what were driving in.

When you went did they let you camp out in backcountry of the park. Or make you go in a designated camp ground?

Thanks, thats what i was lookin for. Do you know if there's a spot I can just go back country camping? Or does all the camping have to happen in designated areas?

Most of the state parks have lots of backcountry camping with the rule of you can set up anywhere as long as your 150ft from the trail.
