I think 4.88 is about as high as you can go with the D30. 4.88's with an auto seem to work fine for mine(with the 35's).

I believe they're Motive gears fr/rr, but I have an 8.8 Ford rear axle. Stock axles there, and i'm running stock big knuckle D30 axles in front with a 760x joint and the Iron Rock almost alloy weld on plate kit.

I blew out a drivers side front axle before the above upgrade.

...and a light foot. Nobody wheels the same or takes the same lines at the same speed. Untill D60's or Rockwells are under it, it's all just usin' your head.

I'm by no means an expert, I just try not to get stuck with no ride out of the woods.

There is a guy in decator i believe (check craigslist) who will install gears and or lockers/lsds front and rear starting at about a thousand. It includes him buying the gears, install kit and w/e else. I haven't used him but i did contact him and he gave me a spread sheet of all my options and what i was looking for. worth a look into since you are serious about changing gears.
