With the 232 bored over .030 it's only a 4.12, but it makes 241 HP. It's amazing how that little amount of displacement can increase the power and maintain the same stock compression.
I use the stock 4.0 rods and cam. The only things that changes is the crank and pistons. Pistons have to be dished out an extra 10cc to get the compression down to 8.8. Without dishing it makes 270 HP but the compression is 10:1 and premium is required.
Stroking the 258 was more expensive and costly than 232, but it's a lot more common. I might even have to have one remanufactured.

My bad, we have those thin exhaust manifolds. I was thinking of the cast iron ones for some reason.Originally Posted by huntingman2706217

Yup. I used an IH 258 block and a few parts from 505 Performance. The head is 4.0 with Chevy valves, springs and injectors.Originally Posted by CoffeeCommando

I was only saying V8 so it would have the beefier tie rod. Only reason I was gonna grab one from a ZJ.Originally Posted by huntingman2706217
doesnt matter what engine... just get one with the same gears as your rear... if you want a ZJ tie rod buy one new... not from a JY... i grabbed mine cause they were already on the knuckle and brand new moogs... still busted them when taking them off though to do the otk flip... pissed... lol

Yea, I have a 95 ho 4.0. thought about getting it welded. Read that the apn or something like that is pretty good. And its like a hundred something. But imma wait so I can change the whole exhaust system along with it.

Get a HP from an XJ. All ZJ D30s are LP and some had cv axle shafts instead of u-joints.Originally Posted by harleys
Gonna grab a d30 from the junkyard either tomorrow or friday. If I get one from a ZJ with V8 will it bolt into my XJ? Or would I be better off getting one from an XJ and then getting the tie rod, etc from the ZJ?

What he said... Disco 30's came up to 91... So 91+ and get one with abs... Has the 297 axle shafts... this is why not to getba zj one... The tie rods are just steering.joint and can be had brand new for like $25 each... No reason to get at a JY...Originally Posted by AeroSynch
