The central FL thread has pretty much no activity so I'll ask here. I'm getting ready to do a lift on my XJ, winch bumper and winch as well, possibly a Aussie locker in the rear. I'm torn on lift height / tire size because we will be using this to tow the camper. Here are my thoughts;
3" Rusty's lift, stock flares, 31x10.50-15 tires.
OR
4-1/2" Rusty's lift, Bushwacker flat flares and 33x12.50-15 Tires.
I've also seen a 3" lift with the flat flares running 32" tires.

If you just need a rear axle lkq has them for about $200....
I just say it's a mustang axle and they charge me under $160...
Or if you want for Memorial Day weekend they'll have a 40%-50% off...

I'm not gonna re-gear right away, ran my '92 on 33's with stock 3:55 gearing and it went just fine. However, I didn't tow anything with that.
I figure if I go with 33's and seeing as I'm towing I'd probably re-gear to 4:10's at some point.
That's the big decision, go small lift, 31's, don't have to deal with much else, go bigger lift / tires = can-o-worms and more $$$

Good thing you made it home before that happened.
Fan clutches can spin like that sometimes, should have a little resistance though, when cold, but when hot, they seem to spin pretty freely. Well, since your going to be in there, might as well just change both and call it done anyways, right! I would if it has high miles on it as they do wear out.

But it will get radiator/thermostat/ water pump/clutch fan/new hoses....

I'm currently running 4.5" coils up front and 3.5" re full pack leafs in the back on 32s and stock flares...
If I wanted to run a bigger tire I'd have to get aftermarket flares or trim a bit and get them to fit...

I think the flat flares give it a nice, more aggressive look, I personally don't like the cut fender / no flare look
I was wondering about maybe a 3" lift w/ flat flares to get 33's under there, thanks for posting that

Here's a math formula 28/(new tire diameter) x current axle gear ratio = Effective Gear Ratio (what your Jeep "acts" like it has).
Basically, just plug different available ratios into the Current Gear space until your Effective is as close to stock. This will give you the best choice between power and fuel econ just like the factory and keep your engine in its powerband.
IE: 28/31 x 3.55 = 3.20:1. It's bearable but if you want to regain the lost accel/power, regear.
IE: 28/31 x 3.73 = 3.36:1 or 28/31 x 4.10 = 3.70:1
You have 3.55:1 stock so a set of 3.73's would feel more like back to stock while a set of 4.10's would give you a little more "umph" than stock.
Any questions?

Hey FL brothers.
A couple of years ago there was a 'prostreet' black XJ down there. It came up for sale and I missed it. Does anyone know it's whereabouts? Last I saw it for sale it was tubbed, 9" rear, 2 door, and had a partial Ford V8 in it.
Would love to put a I6 engine in it and play. Thanks.

Morning guys. Gonna head down to the Action Park about 12-12:30. I can get an hour of the bowling lanes for eight people, and a pitcher of beer for 35 bucks with my ID as well. Sounds fun.

Wasn't hard to take off or put back on...but constant putting stuff on and off to get the correct set of parts together att he same time...
I guess what killed my day is my mechanical fan shroud...trying to force it in it broke in 4 pcs...I went to 4 junkyards and no one had it...I guess they break that often...
So I ordered through rock auto....$23 shipped...
I'm currently running the truck now and it hasn't peaked over 210 even without the shroud...
Oh and the radiator I bought I shocked to see it was an aluminum champion 2 core radiator
