Would anyone be interested in a wheeling /camping trip to lazy springs later this summer, or maybe early fall?

This is coming at a time when some of the older officers are looking at retirement next year.
They'll actually ADD to their numbers with new guys right out of the academy, who'll be making the bottom of the pay scale anyway.
As for buying guns because "We won't be coming."...That's been the case every year at budget time. It's a scare tactic. But call 911 and tell the operator that you've got an intruder and you have a firearm, I guarantee that you'll have a minimum of 6 PO's respond within 3 mins. Ask me how I know.
