I'm getting an early model bronco 44 with chevy flat top knuckles w/ hi steer arms, and 8 lug outers. I'm just trying to see how everything goes together and what else i will need. (reading Mr. N's 44 build/ bible). I'm getting the brakes and two sets of hubs too. I think all i will need is gears and a passenger outer shaft from a chevy...

What do you guys think? I didn't think 4500 was unreasonable, and we're ultimately willing to go down to 4000 but not getting a lot of interest. lol.

They are really pretty simple, much like all other axles, a lot of folks just seem to freak out or get scared when you start talking about stripping them out and doing a full rebuild. Wonder why they are using Chevy knuckles, most of the Fords seem to already be flat topped, and a bunch of them already had studs on the driver side. Does this 44 have internal or external hubs? I will help if needed, advice or tools. I have the ball joint socket some where, even have some seal and think some bearing race installers I made some where in the shop. I don't think I ever made set up bearings for one yet, but if we can get yours off without killing them, and you buy a complete set up kit we can.

My friend has a Yukon bearing puller I might can use to set the gears. He should have a carrier for it, not sure about pinion. External hubs I think by what you're saying. Everything looks pretty good. I'll know more tomorrow and Sunday when I look at it

You will still need a indicator and inch pound torque wrench for setting backlash and pre-load, I have that stuff also.

The chevys are setup like the fords... have that weird twist bar for steering and are already studded as well... The pass side are already flat just needed to be drilled and studded...

The hubs if still auto need to go... get manual.... mile marker hub kits are only $65 a set from oreillys chrome and $85 for stainless steel... and kept in stock...

They may have went chevy because chevy 8 lug backing plates are far more popular then fords... all the military trucks run them... and all the k20's k30's... same axle though... I haven't noticed a difference though and believe they are the same... chevy 10 bolt fronts use the same knuckles as well... ball joints i did with with a rented oreillys press easily... lowers are about $12 and uppers are frickin $40

This is the axle I just rebuilt in the k5 that u saw on FB...

Also I dunno about the 44 but the 10 bolt uses spacers on either side of the carrier... they are a pain in the *** and do NOT try to tap them in with a hammer... mine shattered and I had to go gut guts axle in the junkyard to get another one... lol... lots of work for something so dumb...
