No case mods, no linkage problems just the shifter closer to the floor, all the movement in a d300 is in the front of the tcase, its just a rod the pushes in/out the front, i can take a pic. But a Hack -n-Tap is sye is $99. Add an xj frobt dshaft $40 or so, pretty cheap. The conversion is a crawler mod lookin to upgrade a tcase, not to sye. Once u get to the point u wanna upgrade the tcase a d300 is the only real choice, but fer now do a Hack n Tap or whole output shaft method, then sell the 231 sye when u uprade to a d300.

Just the clips? Or the center pin? Or do you mean the spring perches?
If you're just talking about the clips.. then just pry the sum *****es off, at right height they have no force on them.
If you're talking about the center pin, then just hold the top portion with a big azz pair of channel locks and put a ratchet or wrench on the bottom. Just make sure to soak it with some PB for a little while beforehand.
If you're talking about the spring perches.. I'd go with a torch.

Check out my profile pic, i run an 81 cj, i have a d20 but the design is the same for the 300. All i was sayin is it would flip with no linkage problems and if ya twin stick even better, but im pretty sure u would need to take the center console out, the throw would prob be at the center console, in 4lo.
