ALABAMA XJs post here
yeah, i'd definitely do that first haha. Stony is pretty damn easy. I think the group I got going is up to about 15 right now. It's more or less a "get your feet wet" type of park. There's like 4 or 5 trails with portions I can't do and I haven't seen anyone be able to yet. I usually let other people drive who haven't so they can get the experience. Plus I can sit back and enjoy myself.
Is there a pretty good bit of trails?
The park itself is like 1200 acres or something, govt ran. Super nice facilities. The "easy" trails are a bit narrow and will scratch the **** out of most vehicles. The "advanced" trails are what I would consider easy, and the hardest trails are still not bad. The "hardest" trails consisted of a lot of mud and narrow places that were difficult to turn around. There's only like 3-4 rock trails and I could do them. The only ones I can't do are the ridiculous uphill climbs that usually land you on your side or top against a tree or the down hills where I don't have the gearing or brakes for it. Like I said, its a good relaxed day of wheeling. you usually end up swapping vehicles and embracing the inner redneck.
Figure i'll spam my jeep threads with an engine issue. A co-worker just bought a 98 TJ (w/ the 4.0) about a month ago. About wednesday last week he came to me asking about oil pressure problems. Upon listening to his description, it almost exactly matched the 4.0 oil pressure sender problems so I told him to drive it a little more and see if it went away. Sure enough it did.
Now to the bad. Yesterday he came to me saying he thinks he blew the engine. He described it as such: "I was driving down the road and the oil pressure started doing its thing. About 5 minutes later it quit running and smoke was coming from the engine." the mechanic said he think the head cracked from over heating and that there wasn't a bit of juice in the radiator.
Now right now I'm thinking his oil pump failed, but he said he didnt' notice any engine noise or higher temps until it all failed. What has me puzzled is that there was no fluid in the system. When he first told me what happened I figured the water pump shat out like they usually do and he over heated...
I'm heading to the shop with him today to take a look at it before they tear it down to replace the head. No since in rebuilding an engine when its as simple as a radiator/pump issue somewhere.
You guys have any suggestions as to what it might be or what else I should check while i'm there? I'm currently going to get under it and check the pumps, radiator, and then any oil locations I can get to.
