The 72 highboys had a recall in 76 for too much pre load and it was causing bearings to lock up and known to shear the spindle off, bet mine was one that it locked up then they used a new bearing but the spindle was ground down enough to let the bearing spin on the spindle stem

Went wheeling at yankee lake for the first time tonight. Never again. I hate mud, but with all this hot dry weather we had I figured the trails there wouldn't be too muddy. Boy was I wrong. Although the 36" TSL's cut through it like nothing. I was impressed with how the jeep handled all that mud. Anyways I'm with my buddy and he's got a K5 blazer on 35's. We take one more pass through the trails, by the end my jeep was running really hot even with two fans running. So I park it, spray it off, go to start it and its dead. We jump it and it dies before I get it in gear. So we hook a tow strap up to my jeep and my buddies K5. He pulls me to the top of the hill, just then his radiator blows pouring everything out. We swapped the battery out of his K5 and into my jeep and get triple a to tow him home. Half way there with my jeep full of people I smell antifreeze. At the same time my tach quit, then my speedo, then my lights get dim. Luckily we were able to pull to where my buddies crap was being towed. I park my jeep and coolant is pouring out of the overflow!!! Awesome! Tow truck unloads his crap and jumps us. Now I live 5 minutes from where it last died its now 4 in the morining so I decide get as far as I can. Got about half way. Haha! Was able to pull it into a carwash. Walked the rest of the way to my house at about 4:30 am! Get my F-150 and take everyone home then take my buddy back to my jeep we charge it up for about 20 minutes and haul *** home. Then took him back home and then got my *** home to a very angry wife at 6:00 am... Yeah, I was supposed to be at work at 7. Screw that. Anyways sorry for such a long post. But I learned two things tonight, I HATE mud, and the hell with yankee lake. Sorry, had to vent.
