If I would have known I would have come helped I work at the airport right there and live only 15 min away
Well went out to go to work today. Jeep barely started. Its understandable seeing as its -18 here right now. Let it run for 20 min to warm up and then headed to work. With the 20 min it didnt even get half way to the normal operating temp. The wj wouldnt shift to 3rd so I had to travel at 50mph on the highway. Got to work and settled in to my booth (I sit in a guard shack and do security for the airport) when the guy I relieved rolled up in his xj. He has no heat and window had a solid sheet of ice over it. So we got his jeep really close to the booth and took my tiny space heater from the shack and put it on his dash to melt the ice. After about 20 min he was able to see. I hope the jeep doesn't struggle at 7am when I go home. If I dont freeze to death myself before then.

While we had a bit of warm weather........
Michael, his father and I went on a last minute expedition run.
Good fun, and scary at what I thought was the point of no return.
I will have you know that Michael in his stock XJ went places you would not have believed. Good job Michael!!
I have only a few pictures.

Bailing out water!! LOL

Little update as i havnt posted in a while...
went christmas eve wheeling, it was just after the rain we got so water levels were higher than usual. Decided to travel down this river we always travel down despite the higher than usual water levels. Everything was kosher, smooth sailing, decided to take a left turn and all the sudden...boom, my frontend sank about 6inches instantly. as i tried to back out it only made it worse. Tried to have a friend tug me out, just made it even worse. ended up taking on water in the cabin up to the seat bottom. Had to leave it there over night. Went back the next day with a portable winch and winched it out. After puking up about two gallons of water it finally fired up. Ended up getting some electrical parts wet so the power locks and such were freaking out for a little while, and fried my upstream o2 sensor. the next weekend i changed the oil and front diff fluid as well as putting on my SOLID front diff cover in the process. Changed out the front pinion seal as it was leaking and got a new o2 sensor for it.
Seems to be ok now, ive been wheeling since and it was fine (power steering is whining more than usual...maybe just the PS is low?) But with this dam -degree weather, it doesnt wanna start....so now i gotta go get a new battery! had it tested at advanced to make sure it wasnt the alternator. at least its less of a PITA to change the battery than the alt...

Well went to leave work it was -13 and the jeep would only stay running if I was giving it gas. After about 5 min of holding the rpms at about 1000 I let off and the jeep atayed running. But then I got a ding. Low coolant I know my coolant isnt low so fearing the worst... broken radiator (read the beginning of my build thread and youll understand). I checked the coolant reservoir and my coolant in there was frozen solid. I let the jeep warm up wouldnt get warmer then where a quarter tank of gas would be on the gauge and drove it home. I was getting the coolant warning all the way into my driveway. I hope nothing bad happened from driving it. You guys think itll be ok?

Almost the same thing happened to me last night!Yes, I overheated the XJ on the way home from work in Adrian, MI Tuesday night at 11:15PM with temps running around -8 degrees! And it happened just 5 miles from work with 35 miles to go to get home! :banghead: Roads were just a sheet of ice about 1-1/2" thick and I was only running about 20 - 25 mph. I was beside the road with the hood up looking at all the steam and overflow from the radiator, freezing my booty off when a guy pulled up in a nice diesel 4x4 truck and asked if he could help! We got the XJ to start and he escorted/followed/led me to his house in Jasper, MI. We pulled the Jeep into his pole barn and let it cool off while he invited me in to warm up and gave me a beer! :5SHOTS: Went back out and he pulled antifreeze off his shelf, helped me add it, checked my oil for foam (didn't find any, thank god! ) added a quart of oil to the engine for me, checked my tranny fluid, got it started again and let it run for a while to see what happened and why it may have overheated, checked for leaks. Didn't really figure anything out other than maybe the thermostat stuck or something? Maybe I didn't have enough antifreeze/ too much straight water? :juggle: Anyway it ran for a while and didn't seem to be overheating again, so I offered him the $10 :2cents: I had in my wallet and he wouldn't take a dime!!! I didn't notice it on the way in but on the way out I saw his "other" truck. Nice BIG old blazer with 42's, big old bogger! :JEEPIN: Thank God for good samaritans and fellow wheelers!!!!!!!!!! :JEEPIN:
I'll have to warm it up and check the oil/antifreeze again in the morning to make sure I didn't blow a head gasket or something. The gauge was pegged above 280 and blew out a LOT of steam and antifreeze. We added almost 3 gallons of antifreeze mixture that he pulled off of his shelf. Again, that stuff's not cheap, but he wouldn't let me pay him for it at all!! 8)
