A buddy of mine how we use to wheel our samurai's with was telling me about it today when I was helping him install his 4.5" lift on his new 99' XJ. Sounds bad A$$! I still have mine and thinking about selling it to fund an axel swap, 4.56's, long arm and 35's. Might keep the 35" boggers though. What you guys think?

I've already done a swap on my xj. But I went with very odd and expensive axles, what questions you got?

Wether I should beef up the D30 and the 8.25 or just swap out for somthing more beefy like D44's or....? Wanting to go with air lockers(maybe) and atleast 4.56 gears, but still make it drivable on the highways. I want to drive it to the trails not trailer her. Any suggestions?

What size tires you gonna run? You got a heavy foot when wheeling?

Thinking 35's, but if I get bored maybe 37's. I'd say I have kinda a heavy foot, but as bad as I use to be.

The d30 is actually pretty tough for a little axle. If your not gonna be wheeling hardcore, I'd say go 8.8 out back and leave the 30 untill you have problems. My buddy wheels a tj with 36's and an ox locker with chromo shafts and he hardly ever has an issue with his d30

37's may be a bit much on a d30 though. But alot of guys run 35's on em

I wouldn't run more than 33s on a d30 with 4.56... Lots of torque there. Then again I'm good at breaking shafts. Had 35s on a ZJ with 4.56 in the d35 and chromo shafts. Snapped them 3 times lol rocks and lots of articulation though just add torque.

I ran 35s for years on a 30 and never had an issue, Zak at rustys runs 37s has a 44 in the back and 30 in front with chromolys and beats it like a hooker and it stays together just fine. It all depends on ur budget, a 30 is weak yes you can upgrade axles shafts but the housing isn't as.strong as a 44, for 37s and a heavy foot id suggest 44s at minimum. Plenty room for upgraded parts
