Here's a pic my daughter snapped today outside the shop. Waiting for the SYE & track bar goodies to arrive.
The only rust on the thing is that fender....grrrr. Will replace at some point in the future. And yes, the running boards are coming off.
Do any of you know of someone with a cheap set of 31's with 15x8's & 3.75~4" BS? We just want to run 'em for a few weeks to see if we like the fit, feel & look. Then we'll spring for what we really want.

why wouldyou get a SYE on that little lift? your wasting your hard earned cash. for the price of the SYE I would install your lift haha
imho don't have a SYE on that rig until your atleast changing pinion angles and so forth. but everyone has there own way. SYE isn't necessary and quite honestly unless your going offroading you wouldn't need it. I have one my jeep is 8.5 lift with 35 tires stock fenders. my buddy has 4.5 lift goes almost anywhere I go NO sye NO problems
just a heads up

We decided on going with IRO's Hack 'n Tap SYE kit due to a drivetrain vibration. Over the coming months, more work will be done based on knowledge gained from chatting with folks like you all, and just simply driving it.
I had a shop do the install for several factors, of which the biggest being I wanted it done right and have someone to go back to if there are immediate issues. Other reasons are my business travels make it nearly impossible for me to attack a project like that and get it done within a reasonable time, family schedule.....blah, blah, blah.... You guys have lives too, so you know how it goes. I also have a '76 Trans Am resto-mod that we get out quite a bit, so I need to get it ready for another summer of pavement shredding. Plus, I'm helping my dad with his hot rod 40' Chevy coupe he recently bought that's only about a third of the way done, and his sleeper '85 Chevy C20 with a cam'd & loud 454 we're doing a couple small things to before cruising season is on us.
Looking forward to meeting you guys in person as the weather warms up. I'm sure that seeing your rigs, learning from your experiences, hit'n some trails, etc. will guide us to what needs to be added/changed next, and will boost my confidence to do some of the smaller & less timely stuff myself.

U-Joints
Angle of rear yoke
Although the driveshaft is a "good" it could have balance issues...
unlikely
Wheels balanced?
btw if you read the name of what you bought "hack" and "tap" you would realize why anyone may consider going with a SYE vs hacking up what is there. jmho again, trying to save your girl money over the years. cuz if she does end up liking or wanting to sell it the SYE is gonna help either way vs a HnT. I see a hnt on a rig I walk away then and there. sorry ifi offend anyone that uses one im just not a fan. I see a lot more problems and problems that can arise over time washers? need to be drilled on a mill in reality so it perfectly straight. or on a lathe like we did my friends who twisted it like a sour patch kid. w/e my rave for the day

That's not true. SYEs are great, pricey but do the job. Hack and taps have their good points as well. Usually when a XJ is lifted past the 3.5 inch mark, a SYE or Hack n Tap is a good investment. The u joints might still need to be changed but there will be vibrations regardless. I have a CV style SYE but once I put the new 6.5 inch coils on with the shackle relocation kit and shackles I will be giving Tom Woods a ring and getting a SYE from them. You can get away with not running a Hack N Tap or SYE by shimming the rear axle with shims but will still probably run into vibration problems up front when the 4wd is engage.

It is if you have the money to spend it on. Both have its upsides and downsides. I spend a lot of money on my rigs so a SYE would be the way I would go but if you're looking for the less expensive route, a HNT isn't a horrible purchase. If done right, it will last just as long as a SYE.

Ouch. Thanks for showing restraint fella's. Ha! It's all good. Like I said, we're learning as we go. Now I'm bumming that I bought that hack & tap. It hasn't arrived yet, so now I'm second guessing whether it should even be installed. Thoughts?
