any 40 channel cb. size doesn't matter. some use the all in one mic/cb, but i find it bulky. hook it up to a 102" whip and get/use an swr meter to match the antenna and be done with it.

i have a cobra 29, it's quite large, but a smaller uniden works just as good.
mine is mounted between the sun visors, antenna mounted to the back bumper.

You probably saw mine over the weekend.
Cobra 29 mounted to the console, Firestick mount, external speaker on drivers side, and cheap radioshack antenna.
Seems like it worked good in the convoy and at the blessing.

This is the mount I use:

Its a "Door Jamb" mount.

It all depends on what you want it for. You want it for trail communications or are you looking for some "long distance" communication?

Im looking for trail/convoy communication. Are most of them internal or external speakers? I did see your this weekend 89, what is a firestick? Is it a brand of antenna?

I run an old RadioShack radio with a 6" spring and a 102" SS whip, swr of 1.4. The speakers are internal.

Seems about right for that setup. I'm currently at an average of 1.1:1 swr. I have a Cobra 25 WX NW ST, Firestik II 4' antenna on an 11.5" SS extension rod. The Cobra has a little tunning and I can get out about 8 miles in the city.

I have a radio available if you want it.
The model number is TRC-442. There is a downloadable owners manual on the RadioShack website.
http://support.radioshack.com/support_electronics/45139.htm
I don't have it in front of me at this moment, but I don't remember any scratches on it. It comes with the original mounting bracket.
I believe it was made by Uniden. It is made to be "water resistant" in case you get the interior wet or muddy. It only has three controls volume, squelch and the channel changer. I think the colors are yellow and green. The power cord is permanently connected to the unit and hasn't been shortened.
It does work. I pulled it out of my Jeep yesterday to install a SSB CB I bought.
$50
I do have an antenna (AM/FM/CB) that could go with it, if you wanted it. It replaces the radio antenna and gives you the use of a CB without adding another antenna to the vehicle.

My Jeep is loud inside. The external speaker is so I can actually hear stuff.

you have any pics of how it's mounted? i want to put mine up there on the ceiling, but somebody told me there's nothing to screw to up there but the foam in the headliner and it will just rip out and fall down? (unless of course the screws go all the way through and poke through the roof!) i've only got a little cobra 19 Ultra III so it's alot smaller and lighter than yours, so i would imagine it should be ok as long as there's something solid to mount to.

i just swapped out my headliner for one from a 98 that had a plastic cover in that location that housed a small circuit board. so there is a hole there and i will show you how i'm mounting it in the same location using stock existing holes. my large cb should cover that hole.

i had to make a bracket to screw into those existing holes.

my xj has the smaller visors, so i have more room in between them.
i guess if you have the longer visors, you can very easily swap them out with junkyard ones for very cheap. i replaced mine when i swapped the headliner. 20 bux for headliner and lighted visors.
