my t-case seemed ok when i drained it last night
dipstick on the oil and tranny seem clear (no cloudyness), of course oil floats on water, so I will drain them anyways
on another good note, got my new winch motor in today! i'll make sure it's waterproof this time, lol

Nice. Yeah I when checked my transmission transfer case and motor were find and at proper levels. Just the two diffs were bad. But I did change it all. Chomping at the bit for my locker to get here today, but the new ujoints won't be ready until noon, and I don't have the seals. Napa and Oreilly's wanted 25 each so I ordered them (same brand National) online and got them for 8 each with free shipping.

yeah i'm prolly going to have to re-do my rearend, had everything together yesterday, took it for a ride, and still heard that howling in the rear end. wonder if it is the bearings that are goin out? all i did was drain the fluids and replace them. did you replace your bearings too? then again, you trailered your there right? cause i ended up driving all the way back home with nasty fluid in the rear

No I flat bar tow mine, I'd love to get a trailer. Save some money on tires. No I didn't check the rear bearings and if they are bad I'll just replace the rear end with a Dana or 8.8. The front bearings were good. But I haven't driven mine yet either. I hope to have it together today.

I got the XJ back together. Gears, transfer case and transmission all sound good. There is a slight sound coming from the motor, the one thing that did not have water in it. The noise does not get louder with the revving of the engine. The engine is very smooth too. I'm really not sure if that noise was there before or not. Ill drive it a few weeks and see.

The sound is almost like a vacuum leak, but less hissing.

Now getting a better chance to crawl around and look I thin it is either the bearings on the A/C or alternator.

The tensioner pulley is notorious for having the bearings go out. Had the same problem and replaced mine no problem

it is on the opposite side of the engine bay from the alternator and a/c.....but then again, i once heard a grinding noise from the underside of my dad's jeep and swore it was the front passenger brakes.....turns out it was a rock in the rear driver brakes.....lol those sounds bounce off of everything!

well i still have a decent laundry list to go on mine, lol
