Quote: Over the years I've heard you want steel wheels while crawling and playing over aluminum wheels. I have been looking through the forum and see A LOT of people running aluminum wheels on there toy. Do you have a preference on one or the other or whats your thoughts?
When I bought my wheels and tires I had it in my head that steel was the only way to go. But damn those things are heavy, and like someone else already mentioned... the wheeling world is trying to go anorexic.

I still wonder if I would go steel if I could do it over again. But because I air down quite a ways and plan to add beadlocks in the future... I still vote steel over aluminum.

I wanna do bead-locks so bad but right now I don't feel like puttin' down the $$$$ on a set of bead-locks then have to have street rims cuz our wonderful PD would probably throw a fit cuz "bead-locks are not street legal" the only tires i can find an abundance of is 16's, 17's, 18's and seems all the steel wheels I like I would run are only available in 15's right now and they are becoming hard to find at that.

I just was curious as if anyone was having issues with cracking wheels or anything wheeling hard. Because it seems the only wheels I can find I like are aluminum and all. I have steel white wagons on it now and looks bad *** IMO but I'm having issues finding used tires cuz I can't break myself down enough to go throw a grand on a new set of tires to chew up on rocks lol

Iv wheeled aluminum rims a half a dozen times and have yet to damage them however Im not big on rock crawling. As long as you dont air down low enough for the rim to hit the ground through impact offroad or if you side swipe a large rock with some serious force. What rim size do you want?

Seems that 17's seem to have a lot of used tires but eventually I'd like to get to a 17 or 18 cuz I would like to run the Nitto Mudd Grappler as for hard wheeling I doubt there will be much between Disney, Tuttle Creek, and Fort Scott, then around where I am so looks like I should be ok.....I hope lol

Im all for steel, can weld on rock rings or bead lock rings. If you dent it you can hammer it back.

Unfortunately not going on this trip, gotta put bearings and brakes on the front end and get the tires mounted, and be a good son in law and spend time with the family :-/

Yep, that's my brother in his comanchee at 4:30 then a lot of me after that. I met the camera guy when I was coming up that hill and got hung up on a rock. He helped spot me around it. Damn snow makes it impossible to pick a line.
