$200, kinda hurt but should be worth it in the long run. I didn't think it would actually make a noticeable difference. I should be good with this box and a PSC smaller pump pulley off-road. if not ill do hydraulic assist later lol

Yep, needed it today. plus they suck to pull out of a Durango, didn't have the time to go get one. I also have a 1 year warranty.

 

So the box bolts up the same? Is it just a larger gear inside that makes it hold tighter?

 

yeah bolts right in. some say you have to add a little to the spacer. I have a JCR spacer and it was perfict. it has a bigger piston and internals in the box.

I've been eyeballing this upgrade as well and was already thinking of going with the JCR spacer and adding a steering box brace at the same time.
Any notice of the box not steering as far one way as it does the other? I've seen posts about that here and there and assume its due to them not centering the box on setup (if thats even an issue on the XJ/Durango boxes I'm not as educated on them as I'd like to be). Opinions?

 

I wouldn't replace your box tell it takes a crap or you go up to 35"s Jeff.

 

Would'nt it be worth it to have it already there and done for future upgrades? I'm sure its a ways down the road, but eventually I plan to be on 35's and this is kind of a budget minded modification, thats why I was looking at it. Am I just thinking too much again? I tend to do that.

 

I could see your front axle getting locked before you run 35"s, so ya it could it helping in the long run. Just thinkin of what $200 smackers could bring you

 

Agreed! I have a regearing needed in my not too distant future as well which wont be cheap as I don't know how to do it. Right now I'm just kind of doing the homework on all the possibilities as far as doing it right and doing it only once if possible. You know me, I overthink and overplan everything, Lol!

 

I'll help ya do the rear, but I don't have a press for the 30. Corys dad did mine a lot cheaper than paying six states or something! What gears are you running now?

 

Its a good upgrade, But I would not do it unless your gear box is going out or your looking for a fresh box to port for hydraulic assist. My 35's now turn better then my 31's ever did lol.

I have not noticed a turning issue... I do still have lock to lock turning at my axle stops though. With how my cross over steering arm is drilled (max turning radios) the axle maxes out before the box does, so that may help? there is no way to set up the gear box incorrectly as the input is master splined and only has one position to slide on. the Pittman arm has 4 slots but only one would actually work...

I would agree. either wait till yours goes out, or you need more assist, but 200 can also buy your the hydraulic assist kit.... lol

 

lol, so do I it was a struggle for me to put a new box on and not just go hydraulic assist all at once. But I am interested to see if hydraulic assist is actually needed now that I have a proper working gear box....

3.55's thinking 4.56's. I'd definately take the help in getting setup, I want to be on the 33's by spring but dont want to be underpowered.

I'm interested to see how the box helps after seeing how underqualified the factory box was to handle the 35's and locker.

I'd really appreciate the help guys, I know some stuff, but I'm far from skilled enough to be messing with gears. Of course I would expect to return the favor in some way if I could.
